"Why Are We Actin' Surprised" | TP&C | Episode 110

Send us Fan Mail  Think Pieces and Conversations | Episode 110 – Why Are We Acting Surprised? In this episode of Think Pieces and Conversations, I break down the recent situation surrounding 2XKO and explain why, honestly, none of this should be shocking anybody. We get into the mistakes that were made from the jump — the marketing mistakes, the launch mistakes, the creative mistakes, the delays, the lack of urgency, and the overall failure to understand what it actually takes for a fighting game to survive in today’s climate. Fighting games are one of the most demanding genres in gaming. They are niche, competitive, time-intensive, and they require people to truly want to invest in them. If the presentation, the rollout, the content, and the identity are not strong enough, people will move on fast. I also talk about one of the biggest points of the entire episode: the importance of IP. In gaming, IP matters. Branding matters. Recognition matters. Marketing power matters. A game does not just need to be good — it needs to have an identity that instantly pulls people in. It needs to have characters, worldbuilding, and brand power that people emotionally connect to before they even touch the controller. That’s part of where I believe 2XKO miscalculated. Riot moved with a certain level of confidence — almost arrogance — like they were launching a fighting game with a globally irresistible IP on the level of Marvel or Street Fighter, when in reality, League of Legends is a huge IP, but not one that automatically translates into fighting game investment. It is established, yes — but not established enough in this genre to make people lock in off name alone. And when you add a weak launch roster, limited content, unclear direction, and years of delays, that confidence starts to look completely misplaced. I also discuss how crazy and unforgiving the gaming industry is right now. A company can spend millions of dollars and years of development time on a project, only for the game to flame out in a matter of weeks. That’s how volatile this space has become. We talk about the current state of the FGC, what modern fighting games need in order to actually thrive, and why launching with only 12 characters — while coming from an IP with over 170 League of Legends champions — feels like a massive missed opportunity. This episode is about more than just 2XKO. It’s about why fighting games fail, why some succeed, and why marketing, IP power, launch content, character appeal, and clear direction matter more than ever in 2026. If you’ve been following 2XKO, the FGC, or the future of fighting games in general, this is one of those conversations you’ll want to hear all the way through.  Support the show 📌 CHECK OUT ALL MY LINKS BELOW: 🎥 Full Podcast Episodes → https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd8ZSGCdMCUoK0sIvzSNbMWMkyld4WwIq 🌐 Linktree with Everything I Do → linktr.ee/8leftearth 📱 TikTok →  https://www.tiktok.com/@8leftearth 🐦 X / Twitter →  https://www.twitter.com/8LeftEarth 📸 Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/8LeftEarth 🎮 Twitch Streams → https://www.twitch.tv/8LeftEarth 🎧APPLE: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/think-pieces-conversations/id1720075527 🎧Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2dAWnvVTtDniIiaLsR4hY8?  si=b512a11cdad04756 🎧Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/15ca65e1-07a0-456d-896b-6055340bea1f/think-pieces-conversations 🎧Deezer: https://deezer.page.link/dNvQ4k9DFnVaWyan9 To purchase Beats from video Hit the link below: 🎙🎤🎶 www.beatstars.com/8LeftEarth 📩EMAIL ME: 8leftearthinc@gmail.com (SERIOUS INQUIRIES)

    "A Spectator's Vision" | TP&C | Episode 109

Send us Fan Mail Think Pieces and Conversations — Episode 109 A Spectator’s Vision: Why Watchability Matters in Gaming In this episode of *Think Pieces and Conversations*, 8-LEFT-EARTH talks about **Gears of War E-Day** from a different perspective: not just how the game plays, but how important it is for a game to be exciting even when someone is only watching. A game’s watchability can be one of its strongest selling points. Someone may not know the lore, the characters, the mechanics, or even how to win, but if the game looks intense, cinematic, brutal, competitive, and entertaining from the outside, that alone can make them want to play it. This episode also covers my first impressions from the two Gears E-Day beta weekends, including the early access beta and the open beta. I talk about what stood out, what gave me excitement for the future of the game, and why I believe the potential is clearly there. More importantly, I discuss why betas are so valuable before a game officially launches. When developers put a concept in front of real players, they get to see what works, what does not work, what needs to be fixed, what needs to be changed, and what players are actually responding to. Bugs, balance issues, movement decisions, gameplay systems, and presentation all become clearer once the community gets hands-on experience. Gears of War E-Day is the main focus, but the conversation is bigger than one game. This episode looks at how recent games have benefited from listening to their fan base, making important changes, and delivering a much stronger final product because of that feedback. Can a game sell itself just by being watched? Can a beta help turn a strong concept into a better final game? That is the spectator’s vision. "INFINITE PRESSURE" | TP&C | Episode 108

Send us Fan Mail Episode 108 — Infinite Pressure | Think Pieces and Conversations Podcast In Episode 108 of Think Pieces and Conversations, titled Infinite Pressure, I break down two games standing directly under the spotlight right now: Marvel Tokon and Gears of War EDay. Both games have massive expectations on them. Both games have communities watching closely. And both games are in a position where potential alone is not enough anymore. This episode is about pressure, execution, disappointment, hype, and whether these gaming companies can actually deliver when the entire gaming world is paying attention. First, I get into Marvel Tokon — a game that still feels like something special. On PlayStation 5, the experience has been strong. The game feels clean, exciting, and full of fighting game potential. But on PC, it has been a completely different story. The PC version has dealt with major issues, extremely negative Steam reactions, online problems, frame rate drops, and a level of frustration that has made people question whether Arc System Works and Sony can fix the game before the damage becomes permanent. Offline training mode and playing by yourself may feel smooth, but once you go online, the experience changes completely. I also talk about my own experience trying to record Marvel Tokon on PC, including opening OBS Studio and immediately seeing the frame rate start dropping. That matters because if streamers, content creators, competitive players, and everyday PC gamers cannot get a clean experience, that becomes a major problem. And that leads into the bigger conversation: if Marvel Tokon had launched perfectly across every platform, it could have had a real chance to eclipse Street Fighter 6. But when PC has one of the biggest gaming audiences in the world, you cannot afford to lose that crowd. I also get into the rumors and allegations surrounding Sony’s sign-in requirements and whether that app connection could be part of what is hurting the PC experience. If ArcSys wants Marvel Tokon to become the biggest fighting game, it cannot only be great on PS5. It has to be great on PC too. Then I move into Gears of War EDay and the pressure that game is under. Gears has the legacy, the name, the fanbase, and the spotlight — but now it has to prove what comes next. I talk about my impressions of the Gears EDay beta, what I liked, what I did not like, what the pros are saying, where I agree with them, and where I disagree. I also talk about what this game needs going forward, because next week cannot just be more of the same. It has to be more. Gears EDay needs big modes, bold ideas, and reasons for people to keep coming back. Whether that means a battle royale, an extraction-style mode, or some kind of large-scale experience, Gears has to justify the money, the hype, and the expectations behind it. A franchise with this much weight cannot afford to play small. Marvel Tokon has the passion. Gears of War EDay has the legacy. But both games are under infinite pressure. The question is simple: will they become diamonds, or will they crack? #MarvelTokon #GearsOfWarEDay #GearsEDay #StreetFighter6 #FGC #ArcSystemWorks #Sony #PCGaming #SteamReviews #GearsOfWar #Xbox #GamingPodcast #videogamepodcast  Support the show 📌 CHECK OUT ALL MY LINKS BELOW: 🎥 Full Podcast Episodes → https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd8ZSGCdMCUoK0sIvzSNbMWMkyld4WwIq 🌐 Linktree with Everything I Do → linktr.ee/8leftearth 📱 TikTok →  https://www.tiktok.com/@8leftearth 🐦 X / Twitter →  https://www.twitter.com/8LeftEarth 📸 Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/8LeftEarth 🎮 Twitch Streams → https://www.twitch.tv/8LeftEarth 🎧APPLE: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/think-pieces-conversations/id1720075527 🎧Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2dAWnvVTtDniIiaLsR4hY8?  si=b512a11cdad04756 🎧Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/15ca65e1-07a0-456d-896b-6055340bea1f/think-pieces-conversations 🎧Deezer: https://deezer.page.link/dNvQ4k9DFnVaWyan9 To purchase Beats from video Hit the link below: 🎙🎤🎶 www.beatstars.com/8LeftEarth 📩EMAIL ME: 8leftearthinc@gmail.com (SERIOUS INQUIRIES)

    "Gamers & Girlfriends" | TP&C | Episode 107

Send us Fan Mail Episode 107 — Gamers and Girlfriends Think Pieces and Conversations Podcast In Episode 107 of Think Pieces and Conversations, titled Gamers and Girlfriends, I talk about a dilemma a lot of gamers are about to face in real time. We are in August 2026, standing on the eve of what may become a new golden era of gaming. Major games are on the way, anticipation is high, and the dopamine that a lot of gamers thought was gone is starting to wake back up. The endorphins are coming back. The excitement is coming back. The feeling of wanting to sit down, lock in, and put hours into a game is coming back. But for some gamers, there is one problem: they have girlfriends who do not understand gaming. In this episode, I talk about the guys who are naturally gamers — maybe even degenerate gamers — who now find themselves in relationships with women who do not like them playing video games, do not share that hobby, or want all of their attention placed somewhere else. These are the men who want to grind new releases, experience the next era of gaming, and fully enjoy the hobby they love, but now they are dealing with tension at home because their girlfriend sees gaming as a distraction instead of part of who they are. I also go through a rundown of some of the most anticipated games coming in 2026 and why this year feels so important for gamers. We talk about GTA 6, Wolverine, Gears of War: E-Day, Marvel Tokon, Phantom Zero, and other major games that have people excited again. This is the kind of lineup that can make gamers feel like kids again — but it can also expose whether the person you’re with truly understands your passion. I break down why compatibility matters, why men need to be honest early when they are dating seriously, and why hiding your gaming lifestyle just to keep a relationship peaceful can backfire later. If gaming is one of your main hobbies, one of your escapes, one of your sources of joy, then you cannot pretend it does not matter just to make somebody else comfortable. This episode is not just about video games. It is about relationships, honesty, compatibility, hobbies, boundaries, attention, and choosing someone who understands what makes you feel alive. As we enter this next wave of gaming, some men are going to realize they picked someone who does not respect the thing that brings them peace, excitement, and joy. And if you are dating right now, this is the warning: choose carefully. Because when the games drop, the truth comes out. This is Gamers and Girlfriends. "What A Time To Be Time Traveling Again" | TP&C | Episode 106

Send us Fan Mail Episode 106 — What a Time to Be Time Traveling Again Think Pieces and Conversations Podcast In Episode 106 of Think Pieces and Conversations, I break down one of the most underrated forms of time travel we experience as human beings: having fun. When you’re truly locked into something you enjoy, time doesn’t move the same. Five minutes watching paint dry feels completely different from five minutes playing a game you love. When your mind is engaged, when your dopamine is activated, and when your happiness is fully connected to the moment, time starts bending. Hours can feel like minutes. You look up, and somehow the night is gone. That’s the kind of time travel I’m talking about. I start this episode by speaking on how young and rejuvenated I feel right now, especially with games like Marvel Tokon and Gears of War: E-Day on the horizon. These games feel like they’re bringing back something that has been missing — that feeling of being so absorbed in the experience that real-world time disappears. I also talk about the things I’ve been doing in my real life that are making me feel like a kid again. I speak on getting rid of parasites in my stomach, using dewormers, and also removing what I call energy parasites from my life — people, habits, distractions, and forces that were draining me. I’ve been focusing more of my time on myself, building, crafting, creating, and putting my energy into things that actually make me feel alive. This episode connects gaming, healing, discipline, nostalgia, and personal transformation. I talk about how Marvel Tokon already had me time traveling, giving me a feeling I haven’t felt in a long time. I also connect that feeling to childhood, when games like Def Jam: Fight for NY and other classics could make hours pass like nothing. Back then, we weren’t thinking about time. We were just living inside the fun. Now, in the present day, I feel that energy coming back. This episode is about dopamine, childhood memories, excitement, cleansing your life, protecting your energy, and finding the things that make you feel young again. It’s about realizing that fun is not pointless. Fun can be a portal. Fun can be medicine. Fun can remind you of who you were before the world put weight on you. With Marvel Tokon and Gears E-Day coming, it feels like we may be entering another era where gaming becomes exciting enough to make us forget the clock again. The future is looking fun. And what a time to be time traveling again. Send us Fan Mail Episode 105 — Heir to the Throne Think Pieces and Conversations Podcast In Episode 105 of Think Pieces and Conversations, titled Heir to the Throne, I break down my weekend with the Marvel Tokon open beta on PC and PS5 — and why this game feels like something special is happening in the fighting game space. Before I even played the beta, I had a feeling that Marvel Tokon could be different. After finally getting hands-on with the game, playing with friends, testing characters, going into training mode, and feeling the energy of the gameplay, that feeling got even stronger. This game gives off a type of dopamine that I honestly haven’t felt since the Street Fighter 4 era. The characters feel interesting. The lab potential is there. The training mode is solid. The game has style, speed, creativity, and that “one more match” feeling that makes a fighting game dangerous in the best way. But even with all that potential, I also talk about the biggest concern: launch quality. The beta exposed some serious issues — frame rate problems, streaming problems, performance problems, and even PS5/Sony-related access issues on the first day. And honestly, I’m glad the beta found these problems now instead of the game launching with them later. If Marvel Tokon is going to become what I think it can become, it has to launch right. This episode is called Heir to the Throne because I believe Marvel Tokon has a real chance to challenge Street Fighter 6 for the top spot in fighting games. Street Fighter 6 is the current king, but Marvel Tokon feels like the prince waiting for the crown. Arc System Works may have something that can eventually de-crown Capcom and shift the entire fighting game conversation. I also connect this idea to Gears of War: E-Day. If Marvel Tokon represents the prince becoming king in the fighting game space, then Gears of War: E-Day represents the return of the king in third-person shooters. Two different genres. Two major opportunities. Two games with the potential to change their spaces. This episode is about potential, momentum, competition, legacy, and the feeling you get when a game might be bigger than people realize. Marvel Tokon may not have the crown yet. But it might already be the heir to the throne. Send us Fan Mail Think Pieces and Conversations — Episode 104: The Quiet Giant While Xbox and PlayStation raced to become larger—buying studios, increasing budgets, expanding services, and chasing the next industry-defining blockbuster—Nintendo continued moving differently. Quietly. Deliberately. Almost unnoticed beneath the noise of acquisitions, layoffs, live-service gambles, and escalating development costs, Nintendo kept strengthening the same foundation it had spent decades building: exclusive hardware, recognizable characters, creative gameplay, and intellectual property that grows more valuable with every generation. In The Quiet Giant, I examine why becoming a bigger corporation does not necessarily create better games—and why Nintendo’s restraint may be its greatest competitive advantage. This conversation explores the financial crisis facing AAA gaming, the danger of oversized projects, why uncontrolled expansion eventually leads to cancellations and layoffs, and how Xbox and PlayStation may have overlooked the most successful blueprint in the industry. Nintendo did not refuse to grow. It simply understood that growth should strengthen the identity of the company—not bury it beneath more spending, more studios, and more corporate weight. Xbox and PlayStation got bigger. Nintendo got smarter. And while everyone else was competing to make the most noise, the quiet giant continued building an empire. Hosted by @8leftearth.
