Trauma/Dancing
I’ve been a big fan and follower for several years now. I even met you via FaceTime in Mt. Angel when my bold mother FaceTimed me from the St. Benedict Festival last summer- my mom was being Bouggee (as she rightful deserves to be) up on the hill and I was down in town doing extensive yard work in redoing our back yard and you so graciously talked to me via FaceTime.
I haven’t forgotten your episode on trauma and the book “the body never forgets” and about tribal dancing. I’ve done a lot of personal work in trauma and healing, what came to mind on that episode for me was Greys Anatomy. In the early years(when the show was good) The two main characters regularly “danced it out” after a stressful or traumatic event. I also think about all the dancing of the era after WWII. It really hit home your observation on moving the body after a traumatic event.
What I’ve learned about trauma is this “it isn’t the actual event that takes place, it’s the feeling of being alone or abandoned IN that event, that causes the trauma.”
Thank you, Jen!
Jen, thank you for this podcast. It honestly has been like free therapy and has also brought me so much joy. I’ve been a listener since the Catholic Channel days and I’m currently navigating a divorce. I’m 27, have a 2yo and 7mo old and moved back to my VILLAGE to get through this time. Your advice and takes were as helpful to me as the things my mom, sister and therapist would tell me. The episode where you share the clip of the business guy talking about why it’s important to have a family so your business can grow….listening to that was when I knew I needed to get out of my marriage. I’ll be forever grateful for your help and the laughs I’ve had!
I’ll get to a show and meet you one of these days! Also might include a hug so beware!
Gender Roles
By far the best episode and much needed in a time where if you are growing in your faith and want to listen to a podcast, but are you are just inundated by super-bro podcasts that are not even aligned with church teachings or extremely one sided. I mean where would we be without St. Zelie and St. Gianna Molla if they just checked boxes? And thank you for reminding everyone that we can all agree that being a mother is our most important work, but how you do that is unique to each mother and family and that we don’t have to check boxes. Finally, I would totally get behind you if you make shirts that say “just read a book.”
