Hired: Talent VP on Job Interviews, Negotiation & Offers

I returned to Matthew’s podcast today at exactly the right time. I’m currently in transition, and like most people in that position, it’s easy to spend every waking hour focused on your own next step. What I was reminded of is that sometimes the fastest way to refill your own tank is to turn your attention outward. Listening to Matthew, and hearing his continued investment in people who are navigating change, gave me more than I expected. It gave me perspective, encouragement, and the lift I needed to get through the rest of the day. I’m grateful he keeps showing up and putting this into the world.

This review is long overdue. I religiously listened to this podcast while interviewing for jobs almost two years ago (I said overdue didn’t I?!). There was one shorter episode where Matthew ensures the listener “You’ve got this! You’ve put in the work and it’s your time” meant to encourage confidence and pump you up before an interview and I’m telling y’all I probably listened to that episode 20 times before various interviews and interview stages. It WORKED! I had done the prep work, I practiced, I put my best foot forward and those words of confidence are what I needed to make it through- even when hiring freezes, final round interviews that didn’t come to fruition for various reasons, or other factors weren’t landing me the job. In that episode, Matthew encouraged us to stick with it and be confident in your abilities - a company that wants you is out there- which I desperately needed to hear when I was getting toward my wits end and lowest low after almost a year in the job hunt in this incredibly difficult market. In what turned out to be my dream job that I had 5 rounds of interviews for, I listened to the MoveUp podcast on everything for practical interview tips, salary negotiation, to just general encouragement along the entirety of that process. I landed that dream job at the end of 2023 and I often think how instrumental this podcast was in that process. I have since shared this podcast and resource with many friends and former colleagues in the interview process or at a career turning point. I hope Matthew and the MoveUp team know they are actually making a difference in people’s lives because they certainly did in mine! I’m a subscriber and still tune in to see how I can level up and make the most of my professional opportunities. Thank you thank you!!

You are one of the best teachers, guides and experts in this area of job search, job interview and even going into details how to write a resume with a cover letter. I love that you’re not seeking clients or anything scammers do or any grifts. You’re the real deal. I learned so much from you for someone who’s not even in executive positions of the corporate world. Anybody should listen to your podcast regardless of their work experiences or field then they can tie it into their own process to win job interviews. Thank you even for your templates you provide during your episodes to write down or step by step guides on how to actually write a cover letter to get picked. I started listening to this podcast several years ago when I was actively looking for a job. I decided to stop my job search but restarted again this year. Matthew’s advice throughout was phenomenal. I ended up scheduling a one on one coaching session as well and would highly recommend that too. I got the job that I was looking for and couldn’t be happier!
