    Ep 17: The Bible is SO Confusing!

    Welcome back to This Reading Mama’s podcast! Have you ever heard someone say, “The Bible is SO confusing!”? Perhaps you’ve thought this or said this yourself. But is the Bible confusing on purpose? Or is there perhaps something we are doing (or not doing) when we read that makes it seem confusing? A variation of this has been said throughout church history: “The Scriptures are shallow enough for a babe to come and drink without fear of drowning and deep enough for a theologians to swim in without ever touching the bottom." (St. Augustine, St. Jerome) While this statement isn’t Scripture, it is very much true. Many of the passages in Scriptures can be understood by a child or even a new believer, yet there are passages that require more “swimming lessons” (studying) to understand them. If you find yourself saying or thinking that the Bible is confusing, Amy and I would like to propose three reasons why this might be the case.     Ep 10: The Promised Land Bible Reading Plan

    Welcome back to episode 10 of This Reading Mama’s podcast! Today, we’re walking you through our next Bible reading plan, which takes you through the Books of Joshua, Judges, and Ruth.  We’re picking up where we left off in episode 5with the death of Moses and walking through the life of Joshua as the Israelites conquer and divide the promised land. We also cover the time of the judges and the judges cycle in this episode. We’re also giving you another resource to help you read the Bible this year! In episode 2 and episode 5, we shared our Bible reading plans for January and February. In this episode, we’re sharing our next reading plan for the 31 days of March. We're calling it, The Promised Land Bible Reading Plan. These reading plans are a GREAT place to start with reading the Bible. They're designed like a calendar so you know what to read each day. We've also included shorter passages of reading each day, so it's not as overwhelming. We think that these reading plans can help you understand that overarching storyline of the Bible.
