The second novel in the "Culture" series, succeeding the book "Consider Phlebas". This story follows a completely new protagonist and line of plot, though the circumstances are quite the same. As the description of the book reads: "The Culture - a human/machine symbiotic society - has thrown up many great Game Players, and one of the greatest is Gurgeh. Jernau Morat Gurgeh.
