A new show from AFMAO focused on equipping caregivers and telling stories about the unique nature of military loss from the point-of-view of those who have experienced it firsthand. Three Second Salute starts with storytellers. By allowing those who have lost teach us about their grief, it can help us reckon with our own losses, and equip us to better care for the bereaved. In addition to storytellers, listeners can expect to be informed by experts in the field of grief and loss care, mortuary professionals, and military leaders that all of us might learn from their wealth of knowledge.

    In this episode of Three Second Salute, we sit down withGold Star mother Kristen Giordano Blandin, whose son, U.S. Army Pfc. Joseph Marquez, died during a training exercise at Yakima Training Center in Washington State.  Kristen shares about Joey’s life and his commitment toservice, the difficult road that followed after his death, as well as his legacy. She reflects on personal grief, navigating the military system after a loss, and the ways relationships can continue even after death. It’s an open conversation about loss, resilience, and thelove between a mother and her son.
