We All Need to do the Work with Fern Valley Botanics

Chatting with Elan of Fern Valley Botanics opened a world of inspiration and awareness. She is such a powerful and thoughtful force in the world! And she offers so much wisdom about listening to your intuition, creating a business and finding healing within the herbal and Black community. She just started a business and it is blasting off in the most beautiful way. Her work is so beautifully crafted and she operates from a heart centered space! She shares stories of her journey and the many reasons why she started her own business. We discuss issues about racial inequality and how we all need to do the work to make this a safe space for all.
    .
“I'm a fairly new homesteader that has been living in the Catskill mountains for the past four years! I came up from Brooklyn where I was born and raised. But the Brooklyn I knew had changed so much and didn’t feel much like home anymore but a place that really heightened my anxiety. I found some solace in the mountains and woods.
    👩🏾‍🌾
A huge part of me moving up here was to hone in on skills part of the legacy of Black Americans such as agriculture, crafting, carpentry/architecture, rearing livestock, and so much more! Recently i've been expanding into my carpentry! I started building a little storefront for guest to buy some of our produce goods and my soap ofcourse. It will be my experiment for getting myself ready to build my own cabin studio next. I will keep yall posted on the progress!
    👩🏾‍🌾
I was inspired to create a soap business after becoming a mom and wanting to create products where I had the agency to know what the ingredients were and making sure that they were safe and nourishing for my family and friends. I'm so happy to now share these same thoughtfully crafted soaps with you all!
    👩🏾‍🌾
Thank you for supporting this one women artisanal soapmaker! I am a herbalist in the Catskills who loves partnering with plants. I work hard creating the highest quality, love filled, and sustainable soaps because you deserve it!”- Elan

Astrology and Tarot of the Times with Staj Hanson

Astrology and Tarot of the Times with Staj Hanson

Anastasia "Staj" Hanson is an astrologer, tarot reader, and medium currently offering services on lands stolen from the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Ute. She is a white cisgender woman, descended paternally from some of the original colonists of the North American continent, as well as Italian aristocracy from her maternal line. Her services are for all, and she is currently educating herself on the consequences of colonial suppression of indigenous American/African religions and spiritualities.

As Thyme In The Studio is a podcast showcasing the talents and methods of healers of many different kinds, I think healing is at the forefront of the minds of listeners. How can we engage with dismantling racist power structures as healers?
    Thymelights:
Here are groups I'd like to shoutout now, with a focus in empowering black people/communities:
Femme Empowerment Project—This BIPOC-led project is hosting street medic trainings for folks on the ground in Minnesota. As healers, we have the ability to come prepared, mentally and with equipment, to protests. We can put ourselves in the role of the ones tending to protesters who have been assaulted. I find the Femme Empowerment Project's work to be highly relevant. They also organize and host many workshops relevant to the needs and questions of queer, trans and intersex BIPOC.
BEAM / Black Emotional and Mental Health—Emotional wellness and mental health is at the forefront of the work we as healers do for others. BEAM is focused on the many lenses of healing, from therapy, to yoga, to artwork, and provides these resources for the purpose of healing the black community.
The Innocence Project—It is clear that the systemic abductions of black people from their families and communities, to fund the prison system, is a deeply harmful pipeline in our country. We must correct the staggering disproportions of black people and POC from poor communities being funneled into incarceration. The Innocence Project thoroughly organizes to exonerate, educate, and legislate our way to a just world.
I am personally donating to all of these groups, and I encourage those of us in the healing arts who have the means to do the same!

Journey from Maiden to Mother with Kira Joie

Journey from Maiden to Mother with Kira Joie

So excited to share with you the conversation I had with artist, illustrator, doula, mama, visionary,Kira Birney. She has an amazing story of self awareness, creativity and service and I think it will help you see how important your time on this planet is. I’ve seen many aspects my work evolve because of our chat. Kira is a gamechanger! She discusses how to make your business a reflection of your authentic self, how to create your website as a tool for reflection and manifestation. She shares aspects of her cultural background and we dive into some shadow work surrounding race, gender and privilege and she has wonderful suggestions for how to support new parents, new doulas and creative spirits- aka you!. And she gives suggestions for collaborating and what it was like illustrating a children’s book. Her understanding of the transition from maiden to mother will fill you with inspiration.

Statement by Kira Birney (at www.kirajoie)
"My role as an artist, mother and doula is fluid. Each influences each other and provides me a creative outlet to be of service.
Creativity is my guide for processing my experiences, environments and identity. Drawing, painting and crafting are my primary methods of expression. Recently I have identified the meditative qualities to my art practice. Art as meditation allows me to support my family and doula clients from a present, intuitive and heart centered space. Creativity is life.
The meaning of mother has been an evolution from daughter, sister, babysitter, counselor, teacher to having my own children. Parenthood has been my ultimate teacher and creative guide. Motherhood is art.
My personal experience of navigating early parenthood guided me toward supporting people and families in their postpartum period. Personally I was shocked of my lack of knowledge surrounding postpartum after the birth of my first child. I had so many questions at a fragile and amazing moment in my life.
I believe new parents and birthing folks deserve to be celebrated and honored by providing them a safe space to rest, heal and bond. As a doula my goal is to provide answers to questions and resources on a wide range of topics, non judgmentally supporting an empowered entry into parenthood."
""I am no longer aligned with carriage house birth due to their harmful treatment of a black employee"-Kira Birney
