Serious without taking itself too seriously. You can hear the thoughtfulness put into each question and effort to put singular news events, cultural trends, US history and people’s lived experiences into the context of our current American moment. Always love the little punctuations of meme-level sound bites. The millennial vibes are strong. Also, the episode this week about Lord of the Rings’ role as a prism that’s been held up across generations to cope with national trauma (particularly 9/11) felt plucked from my own brain and conversations with friends now as we reflected on life as teens in the early 2000s. Nailed it, per usual.

Really want to commend you on your interview with the right wing zealot. So many of those people are very crafty with how they give non-answers to very intelligent questions. I very much enjoyed your pushback and fully understand that there is never enough time to try and flesh out the truth Behind these wild idea ideas people like him have. I’m sure it is very frustrating for you to be on an interview and possibly in a room with someone so arrogant and self-centered who would try and tell you what you are supposed to think and how you are supposed to feel about something and then conflate that to say that that is how most people actually feel and how everyone should actually feel. He is duly exposed from the questions you asked if anyone is listening with a critical ear. Thank you very much for your hard work on this interview and keep pressing for what is actually true.
