Episode 95: Building the life you want

You Get to Choose the Type of Life You Live You get to choose the type of life you live. It sounds simple, doesn't it? But there's a lot more to that statement than meets the eye. We don't get to choose everything. We can't choose our parents, the circumstances we're born into, or every challenge that finds its way to our doorstep. But we do get to influence the direction our lives take through the choices we make, the habits we develop, and the priorities we establish. In this episode of Todd Talk, we're exploring the power of intentional living and the importance of making choices that align with the life we want to create. We'll talk about recognizing our strengths, pursuing the things we love, and finding the intersection between what we're good at and what brings us fulfillment. Because the life we want rarely happens by accident. It's shaped by the small, consistent decisions we make every day. How we spend our time, who we surround ourselves with, what we choose to prioritize, and whether we're willing to take steps toward something meaningful all play a part. You don't need to have every answer today, and you certainly don't need to change everything overnight. Sometimes, building a better life begins with one simple question: Are the choices I'm making today helping me create the life I want to live tomorrow? Grab your coffee, take a moment to reflect, and join me for a conversation about taking ownership of the things we can control, embracing our potential, and being more intentional about the life we're building. Because while we may not get to choose everything that happens to us, we have more influence over our next chapter than we sometimes realize. This, is Todd Talk!

Episode 94: Keeping the water out

A buttoned pocket can keep a rock, your keys, or other objects from getting inside. But put those same pants in a washing machine, and that button won't keep the water out. Sometimes, our boundaries work the same way. We can set boundaries with people, protect our peace in certain situations, and choose what we allow into our lives. But when we're constantly surrounded by negativity, criticism, or an unhealthy environment, even the strongest boundaries can only do so much. And here's the complicated part: we can't always just walk away. Sometimes we have responsibilities, commitments, or circumstances that make leaving difficult. Recognizing that our environment is affecting us isn't a sign of weakness. It's an opportunity to understand what we're up against and decide what we can do about it. Maybe we need to change our surroundings. Maybe we need to seek support, create more distance, or find new ways to protect our well-being. Because there's a difference between being strong enough to withstand a difficult environment and recognizing that we shouldn't have to withstand it forever. You can keep the rock out with a button. But when you're immersed in water, you have to consider more than just the button. This week on Todd Talk, we're exploring the influence of our environment, the limits of our boundaries, and the importance of recognizing when something around us is finding its way into us. Episode 89: On parenting- it’s okay to be mad.

It’s Okay to Be Mad Nobody wants an angry kid. We want our children to be happy, cooperative, and able to handle disappointment without falling apart. But what if, in our effort to help them, we sometimes send the wrong message about anger? In this episode of Todd Talk, we’re talking about why it’s okay to be mad—it’s just not okay to stay mad. Anger is a feeling, just like happiness, sadness, fear, and excitement. It comes and goes. It doesn't always need a solution, an explanation, or even an end result. We don't have to turn our anger into revenge, retaliation, or a mission to make someone pay for what they did. We also take a closer look at something parents say all the time: “You’re okay.” When a child falls down, gets hurt, or becomes upset, our instinct is often to reassure them by telling them they're fine. But how do we actually know? Instead of telling children how they feel, perhaps we should give them the opportunity to tell us. Most importantly, this episode is about teaching children the tools they need to navigate difficult emotions rather than simply teaching them to avoid those emotions. Our kids don't need to see us as people who never get angry. They need to see what it looks like to work through anger without allowing it to control us. Because the emotional skills we teach our children today may become the tools they rely on when life gets considerably harder tomorrow. It's okay to be angry. Feel it. Acknowledge it. Walk through it. And eventually, let it go.
