Will Happer: Casual brilliance | Tom Nelson Pod #265

William (Will) Happer, the Cyrus Fogg Bracket Professor of Physics and one of the pioneers in the field of optically polarized atoms, transferred to emeritus status at the end of the 2014 academic year. Will is known for developing rigorous theories to analyze his elegant atomic physics experiments as well as for extensive service to Princeton and the U.S. government. His research has initiated several vibrant fields outside of atomic physics. He has published over 200 scientific papers. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He was awarded the 1997 Broida Prize and the 1999 Davisson-Germer Prize of the American Physical Society. In this episode, Will Happer discusses the controversial and often politically charged field of climate science, critiquing its strong alignment with political agendas and the suppression of dissenting voices. He expresses hope for more rigorous scientific reviews and red team analyses under new leadership, drawing parallels to historical examples of scientific suppression and resilience. Happer also highlights his own scientific achievements, including the development of adaptive optics using sodium guide stars, and underscores the importance of practical experience and genuine scientific inquiry in fostering a more scientifically literate society. 00:00 Introduction and Guest Introduction 00:20 Trump's Impact on Climate Policy 01:52 Challenges in Climate Science 04:49 The Role of Government and Appointments 07:27 The Deep State and Administrative Challenges 30:16 The Importance of Practical Experience 34:21 Freeman Dyson and Influential Scientists 45:32 Greenhouse Gas Effect and Conclusion More about Will Happer: https://dof.princeton.edu/people/william-happer ========= AI summaries of all of my podcasts: https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summaries My Linktree: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL89cj_OtPeenLkWMmdwcT8Dt0DGMb8RGR X: https://x.com/TomANelson Substack: https://tomn.substack.com/ About Tom: https://tomn.substack.com/about

Steve Goreham: Green breakdown | Tom Nelson Pod #264

Steve Goreham is an informative and engaging speaker, delivering compelling and provocative programs to businesses, universities, and diverse organizations. Steve is an independent scholar, researcher, and futurist in the fields of energy and environmental policy, as well as a former engineer and business executive with 30 years of experience at Fortune 100 and private companies. He’s Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America and a policy advisor to The Heartland Institute. Steve is author of four books on energy, climate change, sustainability, and public policy with over 100,000 copies in print. In this episode, Steve Goreham discusses the controversies and outcomes surrounding the recent COP 29 climate conference, and criticizes the effectiveness and practicality of current climate policies and renewable energy initiatives. He argues that global efforts to curb CO2 emissions and switch to renewable energy have largely been ineffective, costly, and sometimes counterproductive, citing examples such as the increase in extreme weather-exposed renewable installations and the significant electrical demands posed by emerging technologies like AI. Goreham also predicts a future pushback against these green policies, driven by their economic and practical shortcomings, leading to a return to more reliable and low-cost energy sources. 00:00 Global Meat Consumption Trends 00:13 Introduction to Steve Goreham and COP 29 00:53 Controversies and Outcomes of COP 29 02:43 The Futility of COP Conferences 03:00 The Reality of Global Energy Consumption 03:46 Wealth Transfer and Climate Aid 05:29 The Impracticality of Net Zero Goals 08:31 Challenges with Renewable Energy 11:41 The Future of Global Energy 16:05 Europe's Energy Crisis 20:02 The Viability of Alternative Fuels 24:38 The High Cost of Sustainable Aviation Fuel 24:51 Mandates and Loss of Freedom 26:28 California's Controversial Policies 28:37 The Reality of Renewable Energy 31:07 Global Energy Crisis and Blackouts 42:30 The Future of Nuclear Energy 44:07 The Proliferation of Climate Laws 46:05 Conclusion and Final Thoughts https://www.stevegoreham.com/ https://x.com/stevegoreham ========= AI summaries of all of my podcasts (plus transcripts of recent podcasts): https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summaries About Tom Nelson: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1 AI summaries of all of my podcasts: https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summaries YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL89cj_OtPeenLkWMmdwcT8Dt0DGMb8RGR X: https://x.com/TomANelson Substack: https://tomn.substack.com/ About Tom: https://tomn.substack.com/about

David Hilderman | Tom Nelson Pod #261

David Hilderman has a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Electronic Information Systems Engineering from the University of Regina and has worked in the electronics industry since graduation in 1988. David grew up in Saskatchewan, the second oldest in a family of six boys.  Since 2000 he has lived in beautiful Saanichton British Columbia, raising two great kids with his lovely wife. He went to the Victoria area to combine his engineering experience and love of music production to work for TC-Helicon, a company that makes products for performing musicians. He worked there for 19 years, five of which were in the role of Chief Operating Officer. Early 2020 he became aware of the fact that sea level rise rates were not accelerating.  In Victoria, the rate of rise has not changed over the entire record since 1909 and is only 0.75mm/yr.   This began his research in other climate alarmist claims.  Reality is so counter to the narrative and the consequences of acting on the narrative are so detrimental that he felt he needed to do something about it. In 2021 he ran in the federal election against the Green Party incumbent, Elizabeth May, and had the opportunity to debate her on the issue of climate five times. He continues to be active in his community, working to educate people on the benefits of increasing atmospheric CO2. 00:00 Introduction: The Impact of Deception 00:31 Energy Consumption Around the World 04:45 Data Analysis and Methodology 08:07 Climate Change Narratives and Media Influence 10:54 Political Dynamics in Canada 20:09 Personal Journey and Climate Skepticism 37:25 Questioning the Origins of Hydrocarbons 38:14 Introduction to Martin Armstrong's Economic Model 40:13 Martin Armstrong's Predictions and Legal Troubles 41:40 Discussion on US National Debt and Global Economic Concerns 47:24 Climate Change and CO2 Emissions Debate 54:37 Haiti: Culture, Challenges, and Voodoo Beliefs 01:15:34 Concluding Thoughts and Future Plans https://co2coalition.org/teammember/david-hilderman/ https://x.com/david_hilderman 34% of the world’s weather stations have experienced 70+ year cooling trends: https://x.com/TomANelson/status/1858837448496754999 Pollock: Solar panels don’t make sense above 35 degrees latitude: https://x.com/TomANelson/status/1841626005976318009 ========= AI summaries of all of my podcasts (plus transcripts of recent podcasts): https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summaries About Tom Nelson: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1 AI summaries of all of my podcasts: https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summaries YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL89cj_OtPeenLkWMmdwcT8Dt0DGMb8RGR X: https://x.com/TomANelson Substack: https://tomn.substack.com/ About Tom: https://tomn.substack.com/about
