There was only one way to end Season 1...

It’s the season finale. Please hold your applause. Or don’t. We could use it. For the final episode of season one, we’ve raided the TLDL archives, brought back some familiar faces and even snuck in a couple of new ones. In this episode of Too Long Didn't Listen, we revisit some of the big questions from across the series. Saskhia Menendez explains why podcasting can still provide a space for honest, human conversations. Abi McNeil looks at why brands should think about podcasts as an extension of the communities they already have. Candace Wilson explains why every good podcast needs a clear north star. Then Doug Downs tackles one of the most common problems he sees with new podcasters: making the show they want to make without thinking enough about the journey their listener is actually on. And because it’s the finale, Josh gets one last recommendation in with Redemption Man, an audio documentary from Christopher Mitchell about the mysterious man who spent decades carrying a large white cross through West London before disappearing. That’s season one done. Will there be a season two? We haven’t actually decided yet. So if you’d like us back, let us know. If you think we should go away forever, you can technically let us know that too. Some podcasts YOU should listen to...

Need a new podcast? Excellent. Because apparently there weren’t enough already. We asked five podcasters and producers to recommend a podcast they think we should all listen to. And, to be fair, they came back with some very good answers. In this episode of Too Long Didn't Listen, our guests raid their podcast libraries for the shows they genuinely love. There’s comedy from Faking Adulthood, meticulously crafted audio in WNYC’s 10 Things That Scare Me, investigations from Tortoise, true crime, history and some essential listening for anyone who actually makes podcasts for a living. Some guests followed the brief and picked one. Others interpreted “a podcast” more as a starting point. We’re not complaining. It means more recommendations for you. So, if you’ve finished your current podcast and are now staring blankly at your app waiting for something to happen, here you go. Does your podcast need video?

Do podcasts need video? The internet has an opinion. We asked five podcasters, producers and editors whether video is essential for podcast success, or whether audio is still enough. In this episode of Too Long Didn't Listen, five podcast creators share their take on one of podcasting's biggest debates. Some believe video is invaluable for discoverability and social media. Others argue it should only exist when it genuinely improves the experience, not because an algorithm says so. Not everyone agrees, though. One guest compares podcast video to a music video: great when it adds something, unnecessary when it doesn't. Another reminds us that many podcast listeners are driving, cooking or cleaning, making audio the format that matters most. Whether you're launching your first show or deciding if video is worth the investment, this episode will help you make the right decision for your podcast. How long should a podcast be?

How long should a podcast be? 20 minutes? 45 minutes? Three hours and a sincere apology to your editor? FOLLOW TLDL: https://tldl.dubbleaudio.com/show What is the ideal podcast length? We asked five experienced podcasters and producers to find out. In this episode of Too Long Didn't Listen, five podcast creators share their advice on how long a podcast episode should be. Some prefer podcasts between 30 and 45 minutes because they fit naturally into commutes, exercise and everyday routines. Others argue that aiming for a specific episode length misses the point entirely. Instead, podcast length should be determined by your audience, your content and whether the episode is still interesting. One guest argues that every minute should earn its place, while another warns against adding filler just to reach an arbitrary runtime. From audience retention and listener habits to production capacity and editing costs, this episode explores how to find the right podcast length for your show. What makes a good podcast?

What makes a good podcast? Ask five podcasters and you'll get five different answers. In this episode of Too Long Didn't Listen, five podcasters break down the ingredients they think matter most. Some argue it starts with knowing exactly who your audience is. Others think structure, personality and consistency are what keep listeners coming back. One guest makes the case that the secret weapon behind great podcasts isn't the host or the sound design - it's the editor. Another believes the best shows find ways to surprise and delight their audience through innovative formats and storytelling. Across the board, though, there's one theme that keeps coming up: great podcasts know why they exist and who they're for. Why start a podcast in 2026?

Should you start a podcast in 2026? Some people think podcasting is oversaturated. Others think that's nonsense. In this episode of Too Long Didn't Listen, five podcasters explain why they'd still recommend starting a podcast in 2026. One guest says podcasts are one of the best ways to build connection and community. Another argues most people should think a lot harder about format before hitting record. One says podcasting can become a content engine for your business. Another says don't even bother unless you've actually got the time for it. So yeah. A fairly balanced conversation.
