Mischaracterizing antinatalism
05/16/2022
as a vegan antinatalist (who wanted biological kids for a long time), it’s super frustrating to hear antinatalism be mischaracterized. Many within the movement DO NOT believe that people in majority world/global south/whatever your preferred term are to blame for unfettered reproduction. Those that willfully reproduce when birth control is accessible to them AND are aware of how messed up bringing more kids into this garbage fire are culpable. I’m also not antinatalist because I’m worried about any possible biological children of mine not being vegan. I am more concerned about not being able to guarantee that my offspring won’t suffer and/or won’t regret their existence. Which is impossible, and the ethos of antinatalism. Antinatalism, like veganism, is fundamentally a philosophical movement, which is not rooted in the conditional. I can imagine that the hosts of this podcast are not vegan solely for environmental reasons, just as antinatalists don’t hold their position because of climate change/capitalism/perhaps arguably “fixable” issues. Antinatalism is not a distraction from those issues, or even a response to them. The “inconveniences” of life, even for privileged people, go beyond merely standing in line or needing to fill out forms, which the hosts dismissed callously. Fundamentally, no unselfish reasons to reproduce exist. I would encourage the hosts to further educate themselves before speaking about a topic they clearly know so little about.

As a vegan for 17 years I find hope and connection listening to Vegan Vanguard. I appreciate the mix of personal stories and general information about what’s going on with animals and vegans around the world.
Great

This podcast is one of my “go tos” for leftist insight. I love Mexies’ perspective on all the topics she discusses.
awesome!

I’ve been a leftist for a long time and relatively new to veganism. I have been frustrated by the fact that even though veganism is inherently anti-capitalist and anti-capitalism is inherently vegan, a lot of vegan activists and content produced don’t seem to realize or acknowledge this. This podcast is fantastic, and I’ve found the interviews really interesting even when they aren’t about that connection specifically. Love your Ursula Le Guin quote at the beginning!
Enlightening

I discovered Mexie from Beau of The Fifth Column. If you are looking to educate yourself, about real current events and what our societal norms should have been evolved into by 2020, Mexie is a must listen to podcast. Open your mind, heart, ears, wallets (if you can), and subscribe to Mexie.
Great show!

I saw a recommendation for this podcast on Reddit & checked it out. The first episode I listened was the most recently released (episode 58). I found it to be incredibly informative & well researched- the interview with Dr. Estes was interesting. I listened to it twice to fully absorb the information & analysis presented. I plan to listen to all of the episodes by the end of the year!
Fascinating podcast

Really interesting topics, pertaining to leftist issues in general and feminism and veganism as well. These women are also really enjoyable to listen to, despite the heavy topics covered they remain pretty positive. Thanks Vegan Vanguard!
Feminist master class

This podcast is one of the only places in my life where I can find radical feminist discussions. As a cis white male this show allows me to educate myself and be a more thoughtful person.
