Welcome to the TTR podcast, where I trash content & topics within the entertainment sphere or I do the reverse. I was fed up with the same old opinions, shallow critiques, and straight up incorrect analyses from the the larger film & TV criticism complex so let's think about how to actually analyze and judge the stories we consume by deconstructing the status quo of film & TV criticism. The industry is so influential to society — after all, to quote That 70s Show, Hollywood is the third branch of government. So hopefully I can highlight how the industry can and should serve my own tastes.

    10: Lights, Camera, Live Action!

    Hollywood has been obsessed with live action remakes for quite some time, and it doesn't look like the trend is going anywhere any time soon. This episode dives into the trend of live action remakes, and the obsession with live action versions in general, across Disney and other big studios to even the TV screen, and whether there's a right way to repurpose an existing property. (Not that anyone asked, but this was recorded/edited in June and only now released because I was going to edit the video version first but it got delayed so I'm just dropping this now.     Hollywood's been announcing new reboots, remakes, sequels, and spin-offs every five seconds, and people have been wondering if the entertainment industry is creatively bankrupt.     This summer debuted Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig and Oppenheimer directed by Christopher Nolan on the same day, and this created a phenomenon called Barbenheimer that had audiences flocking to see these films and creating massive success for both. Did these movies and their directors really deserve all this hype? Do their fellow critically acclaimed famous directors with specific brands deserve the praise they get? And can we ever stop getting these directors to stop writing when they're not good at it? Find out in the trashiest episode yet.     3: Killer Swarm

    Yet another serial killer show (so original), Swarm (Amazon Prime, from Donald Glover & Janine Nabers) turns a long standing misogynistic stereotype about fans into their villain. According to these guys, female fans of fictional Beyonce are more threatening than literally any other demographic, including rabid violent sports fans and uptight gatekeeping male music fans. Will Hollywood ever get tired of serial killer fiction? Especially garbage ones like this show? Will they ever be done glorifying killers or scapegoating mental illness and mental health?     2: Everything Racial All At The Oscars

    The 95th Oscars were held on March 12, 2023 and despite mostly being a snooze fest, it was a big hit for Everything Everywhere All At Once. Coming a whole year after last year's slap fiasco, which no one seemed to be able to let go all night, Jimmy Kimmel hosted a night with some deserved wins as well as some questionable ones. But with a nearly hundred-year history of excluding people of color with very slow progress towards equality, how did this night measure up? And what are some past and present Oscars mistakes that this awards show needs to learn from? No spoilers for any of the nominated films or any other films.     1: When YOU Wish Upon A Plot Twist

    Interesting concepts meet shark jumping in the latest season (season 4) of Netflix's YOU starring Penn Badgley, which seemed so promising, but then as usual, it took a deep dive off a bridge. Inconsistent characters, eye-roll-worthy plot reveals, and further stigmatization of mental illness all contribute to yet another misadventure for Joe Goldberg. Spoilers for YOU seasons 1-4 and also brief spoiler for Prisoners (2013) but that movie also did a very similar turn where they had plot holes upon plot holes trying to explain its ridiculous reveal so don't watch it.
