    Resorting to physical force or other forms of coercion as a means of maintaining order in the household is considered oppressive and is therefore forbidden. Physical and mental injuries can persist long after an incident of intimate partner abuse has occurred. According to Islam, marriage provides its partners with security, safety, calm, and comfort. Any form of abuse is contrary to the ideals of wedlock.
