Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon: Pentecost, The Story of God’s Love in Our Lives Ascension, Pentecost, and Trinity Sunday are inextricably linked as a single continuous narrative of God revealing Himself to humanity. They form a chronological and theological progression: Christ returns to Heaven, the Holy Spirit empowers the Church, and together they reveal the triune nature of God. In this fascinating study, Jen looks at the story of God from the beginning in Genesis, through to birth of the church, Pentecost! A reminder of who God is, and how God cares deeply for each one of us, even in the way we speak to ourselves internally, in the way we care for one another, and the way we care for the creation around us. From our Scripture readings in Luke, Acts, and Galatians: When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’ [Later, after Jesus had ascended back to the Father:] When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. ... Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things.
