The Launchers: Building the Financial Foundation for Life

The early years of adulthood often feel like a transition between possibility and responsibility. In the stage described as the Launchers, ages 21 and 30, individuals begin building the foundation for the life they want to create. Careers begin to take shape, relationships deepen, and financial habits start forming patterns that can influence decades ahead. These years are exciting but also uncertain, as young adults move from the structured environment of family and education into a world where they are responsible for their own decisions and direction.  One theme that emerges clearly during this stage is the importance of understanding money early. Many young adults enter the workforce carrying student loans without fully grasping the long term implications. Financial awareness becomes an essential skill, not just in earning income but in managing it with intention. Learning to view money as a tool rather than the ultimate goal helps shift the focus from accumulation toward stewardship, discipline, and thoughtful decision making.   Marriage and family also introduce new financial dynamics. Conversations about money can be difficult, yet they are critical for long term alignment. Couples often bring different perspectives shaped by their upbringing, personality, and values. Honest communication and shared priorities help ensure that the most important goals are addressed first, rather than avoiding the conversations that matter most.  Perhaps the most meaningful lesson in this stage is that financial maturity is not defined by perfection but by progress. Early adulthood is a time to establish habits, build discipline, and learn through experience. Whether managing student debt, beginning to invest, or simply becoming aware of spending patterns, the goal is to start building the financial and personal foundation that supports a life of purpose and intentional living.  Highlights from the Episode  The Launcher stage from ages 21 to 30 is a critical decade where financial habits, career paths, and personal values begin to take shape. Many young adults underestimate the long term impact of student loans and the importance of understanding the true cost of education. Viewing money as a tool rather than a destination helps create a healthier relationship with wealth and financial decision making. Open communication about money is essential in marriage, especially when couples bring different financial perspectives into the relationship. Building discipline, responsibility, and awareness during these early years helps lay the groundwork for long term financial stability.  Host:   Kevin Engbers, CFP®, Wealth Advisor, CEO & Founder  Luke LaRock, NSSA®, Associate Wealth Advisor  Dylan Rudningen, Associate Wealth Advisor     Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLabQdKOSXuCNiKgVZINvFi8TNaFLBE9sI  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Q2PArlpQZO76D6m260ZOp    Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/true-wealth-podcast/id1862811242  Pinnacle Wealth: https://www.pinnaclewealth.com/true-wealth-podcast/

Now What? Finances After Loss: Planning and Community Support Lessons After Losing a Spouse

Some conversations about money begin with numbers. Others begin with life. This conversation centers on the latter. Jan Noer and Sandy Fink share their personal journeys after losing their husbands and reflect on the emotional and practical realities that follow the loss of a spouse. Their stories reveal how closely financial preparation and personal support are connected during seasons of grief.  Both women describe years spent caring for their husbands while navigating family responsibilities, medical needs, and everyday life. During their marriages, financial responsibilities often fell naturally to one spouse. In Jan’s case, her husband Roger handled most of the financial decisions. Sandy and her husband Jim approached finances together before she gradually took on the day-to-day management. Their experiences highlight a pattern many families recognize. Financial roles often develop organically rather than through intentional planning.  After the loss of a spouse, the complexity of financial life becomes more visible. Paperwork, survivor benefits, tax decisions, and coordination across different institutions create a process that can take months or even longer to navigate. Even highly organized families can find themselves working through administrative steps long after the funeral has passed. Planning ahead does not remove grief, but it can reduce confusion and shorten the time it takes to regain a sense of stability.  Beyond finances, both Jan and Sandy reflect on a deeper transition. Years spent as caregivers shaped their daily purpose. When that season ended, they had to rediscover how to structure life again. Friendship, faith, volunteer work, and community became important anchors during that adjustment. Their experience reinforces a core idea behind the True Wealth philosophy. Financial clarity matters, but true stability often comes from relationships, shared support, and a sense of meaning that extends beyond money.  Highlights from the Episode  Many couples naturally fall into financial roles where one spouse manages most financial decisions Losing a spouse often introduces complex administrative and financial tasks that can take months to resolve Organizing financial accounts and documents ahead of time can significantly reduce confusion during a crisis Caregiving often becomes a central life purpose, which creates a major emotional transition after loss Community, friendship, and support groups play a critical role in healing and rebuilding life Holistic financial planning can provide clarity and confidence during major life transitions   Listen on:     Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLabQdKOSXuCNiKgVZINvFi8TNaFLBE9sI  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Q2PArlpQZO76D6m260ZOp    Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/true-wealth-podcast/id1862811242  Pinnacle Wealth: www.TrueWealthPodcast.com Host: Ryan Ovenden, CFP®, CKA®, Wealth Advisor  Guests: Jan Noer and Sandy Fink
