** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Featured in Jam Fans Forum Episode 12: This is the show in which expert panelists provide their top picks in various funk and soul music categories. This time around, we dive into the deep end of the pool with one of the greatest vocalists of all time, my personal favorite female singer – the spectacular and singular Chaka Khan! We span her entire career, with and without her fantastic band Rufus, taking on the unenviable task of selecting her 5 all-time best studio performances to derive a definitive top 20. While the goal is objectivity, as with all the Jam Fan shows, some subjectivity is inevitable. That’s what makes this so much darn fun! Joining host Scott "DR GX" Goldfine are three esteemed Jam Fans: music & culture journalist and liner notes master, A. Scott Galloway; radio personality, music historian, TV One Unsung contributor, author and actor, Marcus Chapman; and soul & funk music historian and producer of the Soul School Television series Calvin Lincoln. Thanks to all of them for keeping the funk alive!  Panelists' Picks Ground Rules: - Pick 5 best studio-recorded Chaka Khan songs with or without Rufus - Panelists reveal their picks one at a time, explain why and allow others to react. - Picks are not shared ahead of time, so everyone experiences the reveals together. - Panelists compile alternates in case someone else names the same pick first. Thus, we will end up with 20 picks in total! - Picks may be shared in random or non-chronological order.  - Picks may be based more on personal preference than historical context. "TRUTH IN RHYTHM" - Bobby Greenlee (Ohio Players)

** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Featured in a special edition of TRUTH IN RHYTHM, Episode 349: Bobby Greenlee, a longtime associate of one of the greatest funk-soul bands of all time – the legendary Ohio Players. His relationship with the group began as a teenager in the mid-1970s, when he toured with the Players as a member of The Camelot Dancers. By then, the Ohio Players were world famous for classic hits like “Funky Worm,” “Skin Tight,” “Fire” and “Love Rollercoaster.”  Those fortunate to see the band perform back then, as I did, or catch some of their television appearances, undoubtedly recall those highly entertaining dancers supercharging the Players’ party. Greenlee would go on to become the group’s booking agent and later their road manager, as he remains today. During the past several years, he has been instrumental in helping me line up interviews with Ohio Player OGs like James Diamond Williams, Billy Beck and Chet Willis, of which I am most grateful. ** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Featured in WYGYFF Episode 41: Accomplished soul, funk, rock and jazz drummer Manny Kellough. His impressive credits encompass 25 years playing with Billy Preston, including most of his biggest hits; Larry Graham and Graham Central Station – as The Deacon heard on “The Jam” and other classics; Ray Charles; the Rolling Stones; Freddie Hubbard; Barry White; Quincy Jones; and many others. WYGYFF is a welcoming avenue to newer and independent musical acts as well as established and still active musicians of any genre; authors; filmmakers; actors; artists; collectors and archivists; radio & podcast personalities; journalists; scholars; sound techs; promoters; photographers; and other creative people. A common thread, is the show's standard opening question: Where’d you get your funk from? This is much deeper than it may seem as the answer need not be strictly about funky music, as not everyone has found the funk. It could hit on whatever type of music touches their soul or pleasure centers. Additionally, the question extends beyond music. Paraphrasing George Clinton, funk is whatever it needs to be to get you over the hump. Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations. LEGAL NOTICE: All video and audio content protected by copyright.
