    BOO! ๐Ÿญ๐ŸŽƒ When You're Nervous to Trick-or-Treat ( โ€๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽถ ๏นš

Our friend Vivi, age 5, is nervous about knocking on strangers' doors when she's trick-or-treating this Halloween. Many children experience nervousness, overstimulation, or anxiety during Halloween and trick-or-treating. Why? Flashing lights, loud noises, unfamiliar crowds, scratchy costumes, obscured vision from masks, social pressures, strangers... and the list goes on! Benjamin and his sock puppet friend Bloop respond and give some handy tips for keeping safe and having fun this Halloween. And Bloop tries on his very own DIY costume: a shoe for his socky self, created by his ever-creative friend Benjamin! Benjamin wrote a new song, called "Knock on the Door," which helps prepare nervous kiddos for this big day! The music video for this song is illustrated/animated by Sparkler's Julia Levy. Perfect for kids ages 3โ€“10 and for listening together as a family. Grown-Ups, You Can Extend the Learning By: ๐Ÿฌ Sharing your Halloween memories with your kids. Bloop on the Stoop: When Your Big Sib Doesn't Want to Play

Our friend Zion โ€” who is the youngest of five in his family โ€” asks what kids should do when their big siblings don't want to play. It's a common question! Benjamin and his sock puppet friend Bloop respond and give some handy tips:  ๐Ÿ’› They validate the feeling: "It can hurts when they say they don't want to play."  ๐Ÿ’› They explain that the big sibling's need to play alone or to play something else.  ๐Ÿ’› They emphasize that their big sibling still loves them even if they say "no" to playing right now.  ๐Ÿ’› They recommend suggesting a different activity that might be fun for both siblings or taking time to play solo or with a friend/cousin who has shared interests.   In April, Tune Up shared a whole episode with two real-life siblings โ€” Zaira (age 8) and Zaim (age 5) โ€” which talked about the ups and downs of having siblings. You can watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/KA1GAMn4Ghk Using the Tune Up method, Benjamin transformed Zaira and Zaimโ€™s ideas into a fun, original song called SIBLINGS ARE TOUGH, helping turn real-life challenges into something kids can sing through and feel empowered by. We re-share the song here because the themes and lyrics are very relevant to Zion's question of the week. (The song was produced by GRAMMYยฎ-winning musician Dean Jones.) Perfect for kids ages 3โ€“10 and for listening together as a family. Grown-Ups, You Can Extend the Learning By: ๐ŸŒŸ Sharing your memories: If YOU have a sibling, share a story from your childhood that includes your sibling! That is a great way to start the conversation.  ๐ŸŒŸ Asking your child: Is your sibling older or younger than you? How are you and your sibling similar ... and different? ๐ŸŒŸ Asking your child: What do you like to do together with your sibling? What is something you like that your sibling dislikes? ๐ŸŒŸ Asking your child: Is there ever a time when your sibling didn't want to play with you? What did that feel like? What did you do instead? ๐ŸŒŸ Using the Tune Up Method with your child to create your own song about siblings! Rewind: How to Wait for Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ (and Other Fun Things!)

Halloween ๐Ÿ‘ป๐ŸŽƒ is coming โ€” and it can be SO HARD to wait for costumes, trick-or-treating, decorations, and candy ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿซ! Patience is not an innate personality trait; it is an executive function skill that grows slowly over time โ€” and it is often hardest when what we're waiting for is something very exciting like Halloween.  To help our Tune Up families wait patiently for the excitement that's coming our way later this October, we're re-sharing an episode from Season 1 of Tune Up called "How to Wait for Anything," in which host Benjamin is joined by his friend Nico, age 5, to discuss patience and waiting and write a brand new song about it. The episode begins with an open and meaningful conversation between Benjamin and Nico about waiting! Waiting can be hard for Nico, and for lots of people, but using your imagination can make the time pass faster. Nico and Benjamin share ideas about what kids can do while they are waiting, and turn their ideas into a song.  After discussing waiting with Nico and Benjamin's puppet friend Bloop, Benjamin turns Nico's words into a new song about waiting using the Tune Up method โ€” which is designed to adapt the words and ideas of children into empowering songs that can help them to cope with hard things and overcome day-to-day challenges that all kids experience in a joyful way. The episode concludes with the original music video of the song that Benjamin and Nico wrote. The song is called WAIT FOR ANYTHING. Perfect for kids ages 3โ€“10 and for listening together as a family. Grown-Ups, You Can Extend the Learning By: ๐ŸŒŸ Asking your child: "What are some things that you have had to wait for?" ๐ŸŒŸ Asking your child: "What are things we have to wait for at school? What are things we have to wait for at home?"  ๐ŸŒŸ Discussing: "What does it feel like when we have to wait for something?"  ๐ŸŒŸ Saying, "It can be hard to wait, especially when youโ€™re waiting for something exciting! What are some ways that YOU can think of to make the waiting easier?" ๐ŸŒŸ Use the Tune Up Method with your child to create your own song about waiting! World Mental Health Day 2026 takes place tomorrow on Oct. 10. It's a day to reinforce the message that our minds need care, just like our bodies! In honor of this special day, Tune Up is doing a special "rewind," sharing one of our favorite episodes from our first season about something that helps kids go to sleep at night, concentrate and learn at school, play and solve problems together, and MUCH more!  It's about calming down!!! In this episode, host Benjamin and his friend Georgia (age 5 at the time of recording), discuss why calming down is important and practice strategies to help kids calm down. Using the Tune Up method, Benjamin and Georgia co-create a catchy song about "calm down time." (The song was produced by GRAMMYยฎ-winning musician Dean Jones. Coming soon on the Tune Up album!) Bloop on the Stoop: How to Be Brave at Your New School This Fall ๐Ÿ”‘๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’›

Going to a new school can a big moment for many kids. A new school means a brand new routine, new environment, new people, and often new expectations. As kids far and wide head back to school for a new year, one seven year old, Prosper, shares a question with Benjamin and his friendly sock puppet, Bloop. Prosper, who's starting at a new elementary school in Connecticut where he lives, says he's excited about meeting new people at his new school and learning about many things โ€” from animals to emotions. He asks Benjamin & Bloop how to handle the "big emotions" he's feeling as this new school year starts. In this special episode of Tune Up, in which Benjamin and Bloop are sitting on their stoop in Brooklyn rather than in the studio, Benjamin and Bloop play pretend to get ready for a day at a new school in a new classroom. Then Benjamin shares a new song and music video called "New School" that we hope will help Prosper and other kids who feel excited, nervous, worried, or other big feelings that can come with starting something new this fall โ€” whether it's a brand new school or even a new school year. Drop, Cover, and Hold on: Keeping Safe During Earthquakes ๐ŸŒŽ ๐Ÿซจ

When the tectonic plates start to move and the Earth starts to shake, it can be scary for everyone โ€” kids, grownups, and communities!  In this special summertime episode of Tune Up, our friend Roxy, 9, joins us from Colombia, where she's visiting with her family. This week, Colombia experienced a 7.4 magnitude earthquake, which hurt thousands of people and damaged homes, hospitals, schools, and infrastructure. Roxy and her family are okay, but she was sad and nervous after the quake โ€” and she asks Benjamin and his puppet friend Bloop what to do.  Natural disasters like earthquakes can be dangerous to people and buildings, and they can lead to big feelings like fear, shock, anxiety, and even helplessness.  In this episode, Benjamin and Bloop respond to Roxy and share some safety guidelines from the CDC (which can be found online here). The CDC recommends ways people can stay safe during earthquakes. Benjamin puts the three CDC recommendations into a rap to make it easier to remember: 1. DROP down onto your hands and knees before the earthquake knocks you down.  2. COVER your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) underneath a sturdy table or desk.  3. HOLD ON to your shelter (or to your head and neck) until the shaking stops.  Perfect for kids ages 3โ€“10 and for listening together as a family. Grown-Ups, You Can Extend the Learning By: โšก Talking about the big feelings members of your family have about natural disasters. โšก Reviewing the three steps โ€” Drop, Cover, and Hold On โ€” so that you're ready for an earthquake. You can also practice the physical moves to help your family remember the three steps. โšก Thinking about ways you can help others affected by natural disasters. โšก Creating your own song about natural disasters and the big feelings your family members have when they happen. Thunder! Lightning! Tornadoes! Big storms can cause big damage โ€” and big feelings! In this special summertime episode of Tune Up, our friend Xander, 7, tells Benjamin and his puppet friend Bloop that a big storm came through his neighborhood this summer, knocking over outdoor furniture, hurting trees and scaring him and his brothers. Xander isn't alone! Big storms often cause big feelings โ€” for kids and many grown-ups, too. (And for socks! Bloop points out that he, being a sock, especially hates getting wet in big rain storms.) Xander asks what to do about his fear of big storms. Benjamin and Bloop validate Xander's big feelings โ€” because big storms ARE scary! โ€” and discuss some ways to stay safe and get through future big storms. Then Benjamin shares a song that he created with his friend Dan Flannery called Thunderclap, all about "clapping back" when you hear the thunder. Pretend Play With Bloop

Welcome friends! Pretend play is important for children because it builds social skills, improves language and communication, and develops executive functioning. In this episode, get ready to pretend with Benjamin and โ€” most importantly โ€” his puppet friend Bloop.  Bloop and Benjamin help kid guests work through different challenges โ€” from trying new things to going to bed at night to saying "sorry." You'll see Cameron (age 4), Maya (age 5), Nico (age 5), Zaira (age 8), and Zaim (age 5). As a teacher, Benjamin learned that puppet friends could help kids feel safe sharing big feelings and engaging in new ways. You'll see that in action in this episode.  Perfect for kids ages 3โ€“10 and for listening together as a family. Grown-Ups, You Can Extend the Learning By: ๐ŸŒŸ Creating your own sock puppet and using it to pretend with your child.
