The Wind & the Lingering Spirit

In January of 1980, a rare tornado tore directly through Turlock, leaving behind twisted metal, shattered homes, destroyed businesses, and a town struggling to understand what had just happened. For twelve terrifying minutes, the funnel carved a path across the city — from open fields near Linwood Avenue to neighborhoods and industrial blocks near South Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. Residents described roofs lifting into the sky, walls collapsing inward, and a sound many would never forget. In this episode of Turlock Unburied, we revisit the day the storm came to town through archival newspaper accounts, eyewitness memories, and haunting photographs taken in the aftermath. Then, in the second half of the episode, we travel to an old house on West Main Street where strange events were said to follow the death of a young boy. Family members claimed they heard footsteps, movement in empty rooms, and the unmistakable feeling that someone — or something — remained behind long after the funeral was over. One story is rooted in documented history. The other lives in whispers and memory. Both left scars on Turlock that never fully disappeared. Four Shots Before Sunrise & The Haunting of the Berg Building

In this episode of Turlock Unburied, we travel back to a quiet summer morning in July of 1973, when gunfire shattered the silence across from one of Turlock's most beautiful neighborhoods. In Four Shots Before Sunrise, a marital separation spirals into tragedy on Yosemite Drive near Crane Park. Neighbors awaken to gunshots, a young tenant witnesses a horrifying scene unfold in her own backyard, and one peaceful neighborhood suddenly becomes the center of shocking headlines. Decades later, the old newspaper coverage still feels unsettling—with crime scene photos and details that seem almost impossible by today's standards. Then in The Haunting of the Berg Building, we step inside one of downtown Turlock's oldest buildings. For decades, people have whispered about strange activity inside its halls and former upstairs living quarters: unexplained cigar smoke, voices, phantom sounds of pool games, and an elevator with a mind of its own. The House on Canal Drive

A quiet two-story house on East Canal Drive became the setting for years of unexplained experiences — footsteps in empty rooms, doors moving on their own, strange feelings in the basement, and encounters that followed multiple families across decades. In this episode of Turlock Unburied, Scott shares the true story of the house he lived in from 2000 to 2007 and the disturbing events that unfolded inside its walls. What began as odd noises and fleeting moments slowly evolved into something far more unsettling. But the deeper mystery didn’t emerge until years later, when old newspaper archives revealed a tragic death connected to the home shortly after it was purchased by a longtime Turlock public servant and fire official in the 1940s. Was the haunting tied to the woman who died in the basement stairwell… or was something else already there? Featuring real photographs of the house, archival research, firsthand accounts, and eerie experiences from former residents. 🎧 Turlock Unburied explores the forgotten history, strange events, and dark stories buried beneath California’s Central Valley. #TurlockUnburied #HauntedHouse #GhostStory #Paranormal #TrueGhostStory #Turlock #HauntedCalifornia #CentralValley #Ghosts #CreepyStories #Haunting #TrueStory #DarkHistory #ParanormalPodcast #ScaryStories Audio credits: Scary Piano forScary Piano for Haunted House Atmosphere 2 by Lolamoore -- https://freesound.org/s/760738/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Telling Ghost Stories.wav by DudeRat -- https://freesound.org/s/558096/ -- -- https://freesound.org/s/760738/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Dramatic Piano chord1 by Jedo -- https://freesound.org/s/397003/ -- License: Attribution 4.0ATMOS Horror/ Creepy "Under the sand" by bolkmar -- https://freesound.org/s/421702/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Astioita ja lasia rikki / Glass, dishes, tableware break, table or a cupboard falls, mix by YleArkisto -- https://freesound.org/s/347496/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Tension-Building Horror by Matio888 -- https://freesound.org/s/793492/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Creaking floor/door by birdman5454 -- https://freesound.org/s/734958/ -- License: Attribution 4.0FEETHmn_Footsteps Upstairs.Wooden House. With Ceiling Creaking.Designed 2_EM by newlocknew -- https://freesound.org/s/763195/ -- License: Attribution NonCommercial 4.0Hotel room door closing from corridor (faraway perpective) by George_Papargyris -- https://freesound.org/s/840665/ -- License: Attribution 4.0
