    This Team Is A Bigger Obstacle For the Yankees Than the Rays

    Send us Fan Mail With about five weeks left to the 2026 regular season, the Yankees entered this week just three games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays in the loss column in the American League East. With four games remaining on the schedule against the Rays, you could say that the Yankees are at least somewhat in control of their destiny. The problem, though, is this - the Boston Red Sox were just three games behind New York in the standings.  And the Yankees host Boston this coming weekend in the Bronx in a four-game series that might actually be more important for New York than the Tampa Bay series. Yes, it would be great to catch the Rays and finish first in the division, but the prospect of facing the Red Sox at Fenway for the Wild Card Series is NOT a good scenario for the Yankees. Plus, Chris Swendeman had the opportunity to catch Rush on tour in Philadelphia and he was more than excited about how the band sounded. Follow us on Social Media for more content.     The Clock Is Ticking For the New York Yankees

    Send us Fan Mail While the Yankees wait for Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Cody Bellinger to return from their respective injuries, the team's depleted lineup is struggling to score runs. In fact, since the trade deadline a couple of weeks ago, the Yankees are 6-5, falling slightly farther behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East. For the time being, the Red Sox, who were tied in the loss column with New York for the top Wild Card spot in the American League just a few days ago, have cooled off. Making the playoffs most likely isn't the issue.  But with three important pieces of their offense on the shelf until at least the beginning of September (and let's face it, Judge might be a couple of weeks beyond that, if he comes back at all this year), the odds of making a deep run in October get worse each day. And it most certainly doesn't help that pitcher Max Fried is injured again with a bone bruise in his left elbow.     The Yankees Are 100% To Blame For the Volpe Mess

    Send us Fan Mail Just following the trade deadline last week, the New York Yankees made a move that a lot of fans had been clamoring for, sending Anthony Volpe to AAA and calling up George Lombard Jr. Volpe's struggles both at the plate and in the field were on display on an almost nightly basis, and in the process, the fan base turned on him with a vengeance. None of that anger was deserved.  Or if it was, the fans' collective ire was VERY misdirected. This is 100% the fault of the organization.   Follow us on Social Media for more content.     Where Was the Yankees' Sense of Urgency at the Deadline?

    Send us Fan Mail Going into the MLB trade deadline, the New York Yankees had four holes that needed attention - catcher, shortstop, outfield, bullpen. The team's deadline moves yielded a first baseman in Luis Garcia Jr (yes, he has played other infield positions but he's not a shortstop), an outfielder in Heliot Ramos, and.... And therein lies the problem.  New York's moves at the deadline simply weren't enough, which is indicative of a lack of urgency on the team's part. Garcia is a legit bat in the lineup; we're talking about a guy who was leading the National League in slugging at the time of the trade.  Ramos is at least a stop gap until Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger come back. You can argue that the Yankees have enough in their bullpen to make a deep run in October, but when both the Rays and Red Sox make improvements at catcher, and you do NOTHING to fix your own problems behind the plate, there's an overwhelming feeling that the Yankees may think they can get by with Austin Wells as their everyday catcher. As for shortstop, the Yankees chose to make a move from within, bringing up highly-touted prospect George Lombard Jr and sending Anthony Volpe down to AAA. Did the Yankees get better at the deadline?  The lineup should improve with Garcia and Ramos.  Lombard deserves a chance to show what he can do. But you can also easily make the argument that the Rays and Red Sox, currently on either side of the Yankees in the American League standings, did a lot more than New York did.     Here's Why Knicks Fans Don't Have To Worry About LeBron To the 76ers

    Send us Fan Mail Congratulations, 76ers fans - you just won the month of July! With the signing of 22-time NBA All-Star LeBron James to a two-year contract (at the veteran minimum of $4 million per year), your team made a significant improvement. Along with the recent acquisition of Jaylen Brown from the Celtics, is the addition of LeBron going to be enough to get the 76ers their first NBA championship since 1983? Chris Swendeman doesn't think so, and he has a number of reasons why he doesn't think Knicks fans should be concerned about the 76ers blocking a New York championship repeat. The MLB trade deadline is less than a week away and with Cody Bellinger now out for at least a month, the Yankees find themselves in serious need of an outfielder. So that's now four holes New York might need to fill between now and August 3rd - catcher, shortstop, relief pitcher, and a right-handed hitting outfielder.     The Yankees Don't Need To Look Far For Their Next Shortstop

    Send us Fan Mail Let's get this out of the way first - yes, Jim Monaghan is CLEARLY gloating over the 14-game Red Sox winning streak. He also thinks that the Sox are playing WAY over their heads. On tap this week - The Yankees solution at shortstop may already be playing in New York City.  And Derek Jeter may have been VERY diplomatic in his comments, but he said the quiet part about Anthony Volpe out loud.     The USMNT's World Cup Run Ends With A Thud

    Send us Fan Mail The United States Men's National Team's run in the 2026 World Cup ended Monday night with a 4-1 knockout loss to Belgium. Despite FIFA (thanks perhaps in response to a phone call from President Trump) allowing the USA's top scorer Folarin Balogun to play after a red-card suspension during the team's match with Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Americans looked flat almost from the start. For his part, Balogun was a non-factor in the game with just one shot on goal.   And Balogun wasn't alone in struggling.  Christian Pulisic was another in a line of American players who underperformed. When it comes to underperforming, you need look no further than the New York Yankees offense. After getting swept in a 4-game series by the Red Sox (which Jim Monaghan said last week would be nothing more than a blip on the screen), the Yankees were swept by the Minnesota Twins, and dropped a series against the Minnesota Twins.     A Blip for the Yankees, a Disaster for the Mets

    Send us Fan Mail Right now the Mets and Red Sox appear to be going in two different directions. And relax, Yankees fans.  You won't remember this past weekend by the end of July. Following a 4-game weekend sweep of the Yankees and a Monday night win over the Nationals, the Red Sox appear to have found some momentum. The Mets?  They are firmly entrenched in last place in the NL East and on the day they fired their manager, the Mr. Met mascot was seen cavorting on camera behind SNY's Steve Gelbs as he was discussing what had happened to Carlos Mendoza. Needless to say, that wasn't a good look.  In actuality, they're actually both going in the exact same direction - nowhere. Both teams are in last place and while the Red Sox may be showing some signs of life, the reality is that they are not going to make the playoffs. So both appear to be sellers at the upcoming trade deadline which begs the question - who is going to be the one making trade decisions for each team? David Stearns of the Mets and Boston's Craig Breslow each put together horrible rosters and then fired their respective managers. If you're a fan of either team, do you REALLY want one of them making any kind of roster decisions going forward? As for the Yankees, losing four straight to the last-place Red Sox stings, but a month from now it will just be a blip on the screen. Follow us on Social Media for more content.
