Episode 20: Sarah York - Clean Linen
We have a new President and VP and also a new episode of America's favorite (and only) podcast about candles! Comedian Sarah York (@thesarahyork) joins Selena via Zoom from Los Angeles as Two Wick Min's first LA Zoom goes! They talk about the importance of sensory experiences as we are stuck at home during the pandemic, the idiocy of reed diffusers, and the power of classic Bath & Body Works scents. In addition, she introduces Selena to dreamy brand Hiatus Candles. (music: bensound.com)
Episode 19: Shalewa Sharpe - Natural Annie Essentials Lavender Vanilla
We are here with hot candle conversation for the new year, 2021! In this, the first episode of the new year, Selena chats with comedian Shalewa Sharpe (@silkyjumbo) about incense vs. candles, the difficulty of adjusting to NYC, and supporting beloved shops. Shalewa even shares a story of candle theft! (music: bensound.com)
Episode 18: Ken Reid - Lanikai Coconut (RIP)
In this episode, Selena and her guest talk about loves lost: discontinued candles. Selena is joined by her old friend Ken Reid (@KennethWReid), a comedian, podcaster, and pop culture expert. Ken is the host of the popular podcast TV Guidance Counselor and he has some HOT TAKES about candle kingmakers at Bath & Body Works. Hear his bold opinions about Yankee Candle, his favorite way to pass sad hours as a high schooler, and his feelings about the world of bootleg candles. (music: bensound.com)
Episode 17: Ben Fertig - Blithe and Bonny Eucalyptus Mint
After an 8 month hiatus, Selena is finally back to entertain her beloved candle friends with hilarious, silly candle conversation and hot takes about wholly uncontroversial topics. This week she is joined by L.A. resident, comedian, and fellow Hamilton alum Ben Fertig who did not come to play. Ben mentions some high-end hits (Maison Louis Marie, Creed, PF Candle Company, Le Labo, Blithe and Bonny), the value of trays in home decor, and the sentimental value of candles.
Episode 16: Lauren Maul - Slow Burn (Kacey Musgraves + Boy Smells)
This week, Selena sits down with her friend, the uber-talented Lauren Maul, to discuss an unlit candle as a life unlived, Lauren's brief tenure as a wax experimenter, and the hard truths about beeswax candles. They swoon over SLOW BURN, a glorious candle from country superstar Kacey Musgraves (named after her gorgeous, moody song) and discuss Dylan McKay's wick. (music: bensound.com)
Episode 15: Jeremy Glass - Discount Aisle Candles
This week, Selena sits down with her first-ever straight, white, male guest, writer and self-described "candle boy," Jeremy Glass. Jeremy's candle journey started young and he is a lifelong member of Team Vanilla, much to Selena's shock and horror. Jeremy is about to become a father to a baby girl and he can't wait to teach her all about candles. (music: bensound.com)
I love candles and I love podcasts
I've been a longtime fam ever since you starred in the off-off-off-off-Broadway version of bye bye birdie. You had a dashingly handsome and super funny co-star husband who you sang a song with? That performance changed my life and not only have I enjoyed candles since the early 90s but I also enjoy celebrities who like candles. Thank you!
Thank god for this
I love candles so much and it never occurred to me how much I needed to hear people talk about candles until my candle-loving friend recommended this pod to me. Selena is so funny and has such a great podcast voice and her guests are great too. Love hearing what she has to say about non-candle things too. Highly recommend!!
Everything I didn’t know I needed
Love love love this podcast!! I had no idea I was so naive about the greater candle community, but Selena balances ridiculous satire & genuine love of the finer things in life beautifully. I’ve been thinking about my candle journey in anticipation of season 2, and I gotta say, it explains a lot 😅
