Love Letters for Carley (pt. 1)

Love Letters for Carley (pt. 1)

This title was inspired by the last episode Carley and I recorded together: Love Letters with Lorraine. Earlier this year, I asked our guests and listeners to send in a “letter” to Carley in the form of a voice message.

Took me a bit to finish this episode because sometimes these messages are too much, and sometimes they’re so helpful and make me really happy ya know?

It was really cathartic to listen to these - thanks so much for sending in your letters to all who did 🫶🏼

If you'd like to send in one for part 2, email a voice memo to txforeverpod@gmail.com.

    The Interruptus

    The Interruptus

Today, we share “The Interruptus.” I sat down at my mic (after weeping to the Season 4 finale of One Tree Hill) and verbally processed what losing Carley has been like. Carley’s brother Grant, our audio engineer, also shares what this show has meant to him. You’ll also hear my eulogy at the end.

I decided to place the entirety of my friend Kevin Kelly’s song “Soon” to open it, as it’s meant so much to recently. I think it sounds like Carley talking right to me, talking to us.

I’m learning loss doesn’t get any easier — you don’t get used it. It just becomes more a part of who you are.

***I definitely want to place trigger warning on this episode — it’s raw and you might be want to be somewhere private when you listen.

Love you Carley. I know I’ll be seeing ya soon.

    -Monica

Amazing FNL podcast :)

I can’t think of a more creative title, but this really is an amazing podcast. I stumbled across the podcast a few weeks ago and as a good Millennial, I’ve been binging and am a few episodes into season 2. Like the hosts, I am a huge Gilmore Girls (and Gilmore Guys) fan and we have similar tastes outside of Friday Night Lights (Parks and Rec, The Office, Harry Potter etc) so I really enjoy the occasional outside references! Carley and Monica are delightful to listen to and their close bond and long friendship makes for amazing chemistry and dynamic conversations on air. The podcast is well organized and I really enjoy the various sections, especially Music Corner and Tami Time. I’m also really enjoying the TX Talks and all of the guests. Loving the Gilmore Guys guest crossovers including the great Gilmore Guy Kevin T. Porter himself! Soooo jealous. Y’all just need to get Demi to watch Friday night lights and come on the show now! This is turning into a novel but this has become such a comfort and whenever I’m on the bus or walking somewhere, it’s on 😂 Also I can’t figure out how to change my username for the submission but dying because what a great throwback haha

Easily doubles my enjoyment of the show

Monica and Carley’s unique humor shines from episode one, but this is much more than another “two funny girls watch a tv show and chitchat” podcast. Hearing them discuss the music, cinematography, fashion, Texas-ness, etc. of the show, each in their own well-structured segments, makes me get so much more out of each episode than I would just bingeing the show myself, and I pay attention to things I never would have noticed otherwise. Hearing about Carley’s journey with cancer - always in a way that feels relevant and not shoehorned in - taught me a lot about dealing with tragedy, how to deal with someone dealing with tragedy, and how to deal with someone dealing with someone dealing with tragedy.

But it’s also really funny, I swear.

Love those gals, I feel like they’re my friends. Great commentary and an incredible insight into Monica and Carley’s beautiful friendship.
