Per the Google! As it plummets towards the surface, the intense friction with the atmosphere heats the debris, causing it to glow and create a streak of light across the sky. This is scientifically known as a meteor. The green color seen in some shooting stars is due to the presence of nickel or copper in the meteoroid. Love the show. I also saw a green fireball one night and it was incredible!
