If you’re a fan of music that’s raw, real, and beautifully unpolished, Unaffected is a must-listen. Hosted and produced by Ethan Stoller, the show explores rare and compelling recordings by singers who don’t try to put anything on—just pure, unaffected talent. It’s a refreshing break from overproduced vocals and performative style.
Ethan’s insights are sharp, and his love for music is absolutely infectious. One of my favorite parts is when he sits at the piano to break down what makes a performance special—his composition skills and ear for nuance bring a whole new layer of appreciation to each episode. His calm, thoughtful presence makes the show incredibly relaxing to listen to, and he’s also got a great sense of humor.
It’s definitely a niche podcast, but if it’s your kind of niche, it’ll feel like striking gold. Bonus points: Ethan hates Trump, which I appreciate too.
Highly recommend Unaffected if you’re into music that values heart over hype.
