EWA Undercurrent Podcast | Episode 8 - Tim Arsenault Returns

Tim Arsenault returns! In episode 8 Tim and Dave sit down at EWA fly shop after weather forced a reschedule of an on-water day with Bridge and Burkheimer.  Was a great excuse to catch up and discuss the latest at Bridge Outfitting and what Tim has coming in 2026 for the two-handed world to look forward to. This ones full of industry happening's, nuggets eluding to new product releases and a lot of insight into the world of two-handed casting and what makes his Bridge Lines such a hot commodity and also the real life struggles and triumphs that bring them to life. These are all a fun experience but Tim genuinley exudes his deep passion and enigmatic personality! About | Tim Arsenault: I have spent a good portion of my life fishing for Steelhead and Salmon all around the Pacific Northwest region, and over a decade in fly fishing retail. During this time I was exposed to a great many talented people, fly lines, rods, and just about everything else involving fly fishing. As I continued working in the industry I developed ideas about where fly lines and tackle could go in terms of design and intended uses, as well as what I wanted and expected out of the tackle I used day in and day out.  About Host | Dave McCoy: Raised in Eugene, Oregon, my stomping grounds were of legendary namesake; the Deschutes, McKenzie and North Umpqua Rivers among others. I quickly discovered the thrill of having a fish on but was always in awe of my surroundings. My early exposure to water in all forms led me away from fly fishing to pursue a career as a ski race coach but was always mindful of what fly fishing brought to my life. I have a habit of relentlessly pursuing the effort to exceed expectations and create a more inclusive narrative for this sport.

EWA Undercurrent Podcast | Episode 5 - Yvon Chouinard & Craig Matthews

This episode was intended, like all our podcasts to be set in the environment where you would hope and maybe or maybe not expect to find our guests.  We were planning to meet in West Yellowstone and snowshoe into a favorite fishing location of Craig's on the Madison River.   Alas, with COVID still looming, for the safety of our friends and everyone involved we reluctantly settled for a zoom call with both Craig and Yvon.  This may have been the first with the 2 of them together and we are so honored to have had the opportunity to do so.   The timing was intended to be on the 20 year anniversary of 1% For the Planet, a crazy brilliant idea the two conjured up in an effort to change the way the world does business and how businesses engaged with the natural resources they are dependent upon. We had the privilege of sitting down with Craig and Yvon to chat about the inception of 1% For The Planet, the precedent it set and where it's heading.   This is a very special anniversary episode.  About Host | Dave McCoy: Raised in Eugene, Oregon, my stomping grounds were of legendary namesake; the Deschutes, McKenzie and North Umpqua Rivers among others. EWA Undercurrent Podcast | Episode 4 - Matt Shilling - Indifly Foundation

This will be a two-part episode, and we are pleased to release them during Native American Heritage Month. Episode 4 is a very special one for many reasons. We traveled to the Wind River Reservation, home to the Eastern Shoshone and the Northern Arapaho people.  Being on location for this podcast was imperative for authenticity and we wanted to experience first hand the work Indifly has been doing over the past decade. Indifly's mission is helping to create economic opportunities in their communities through fly fishing while protecting the resources and the environments that sustain them. Indifly is currently working with the Shoshone and Arapaho to set up a lodge on the reservation. In part two we talk with Art Lawson, Director of Wind River Fish and Game about life on the reservation, and how a fly fishing lodge will improve life for the Shoshone and Arapaho who live there.   About Host | Dave McCoy: Raised in Eugene, Oregon, my stomping grounds were of legendary namesake; the Deschutes, McKenzie and North Umpqua Rivers among others. EWA Undercurrent Podcast | Episode 3 - Dylan Tomine - Return to the Skykomish

In this episode, Dave convinced Dylan to take a trip down memory lane, to float the Sky, do a bit of fishing, talk about what has changed, and the future of wild steelhead. 18 years ago Dylan Tomine made the difficult decision to stop fishing on the Skykomish River. It was heartbreaking to walk away from the river he cut his teeth fishing on, a river he loved, his home water. In the 18 years that have passed since Dylan last fished the Skykomish, wild Steelhead populations have all collapsed.  The wild steelhead is the state of of Washington and in the 27 years of living here in Washington, Dave has witnessed the utter destruction of these magnificent species.  Some of it in our control and some of it not.  Dylan and Dave discuss much of this and work to find hope in the management of their future and the seek realization in the community of their dire situation. This one is emotional, thought-provoking, and at times pretty funny.  Join us for a day on the Skykomish with Dylan and Dave as Dylan returns at long last to his home waters.  About Host | Dave McCoy: Raised in Eugene, Oregon, my stomping grounds were of legendary namesake; the Deschutes, McKenzie and North Umpqua Rivers among others.
