Dustin Hayes grew up in Oklahoma, he lived in an abusive home. He didn’t do well in school. Dustin dropped out in the 10th grade. Dustin found solace in the military; it became a sanctuary for him. He thrived alongside his brothers and sisters in the service. But fate had a different plan; his dreams were shattered when he suffered a life-altering injury in Afghanistan, putting an abrupt end to his promising career.  

In the aftermath, confusion and depression consumed Dustin. He found the strength to embark on a remarkable transformation, embarking on a new path as an entrepreneur. However, the success he reached in business crumbled due to a disastrous partnership.  

After a battle with skin cancer, the demise of his business, and lawsuits stemming from it, Dustin battled things in his family life that helped him hit rock bottom. Between addiction and suicide attempts within his home, he found himself fighting battles on each front. He, too, contemplated suicide multiple times.  

Now, with a good support system and a new passion for coffee, Dustin joins Unfiltered Discussions to talk about his journey and ability to overcome.

Sean Robinson is a married, father of 3. In the middle of COVID-19, he decided he had enough of how I was feeling, and seeing the scale reach 320lbs, he knew it was time to make some changes.  Sean decided to remove alcohol from his life, at least for a little while. Going through “Dry January,” “Dry February,” and beyond, Sean learned so much more about himself. He focused more on his habitual relationship with drinking rather than the addiction. Sean found out how difficult it was to simply remove this from his life.  

In the pursuit of helping his former self, Sean took a journal he was keeping through the first year of this journey and made it into a book. "Going Dry - My Path to Overcoming Habitual Drinking" was the catalyst for change that Sean needed in his life.  Since the start of this journey, he has lost over 100 lbs., stayed away from alcohol, developed better relationships with my family, and has been feeling great.  

Sean joins Unfiltered Discussions for a second time to discuss his progress as well as upcoming challenges he’s set for himself.

Tim Harper is a coal miner located in central Utah. For the last 20 years, he has worked as a Longwall Maintenance Coordinator for Utah American Energy, Inc., repairing and maintaining heavy-duty equipment; including multi-million dollar machines and the longwall.

Personally, Tim has two daughters, Frankie and Miley. He's married to his sweetheart, Mary. And is the stepfather to her three children, Christian, and Jessica, and the host of Unfiltered Discussions, Brian.

In Tim's spare time, he loves to ride his Harley, travel and is a proud member of the local Elk's Lodge.

She is a dynamic speaker, writer, and media personality with over 30 years of experience in national and local radio and television.  For 30 years, she has hosted award-winning radio shows in Chicago and is the host of a popular weekly broadcast, “The Karen Conti Show” on WGN.    She has been a regular commentator on all the local television stations as well as CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, NewsNation, and National Desk, where she had a regular weekly segment. 

For over 20 years, Karen was a law professor at the University of Illinois College of Law and DePaul Law School, teaching a death penalty class and trial skills courses.
