    ANC takes IEC to Electoral Court, and "jou ma se" Pemmy-gate

    In our top story this Sunday, the ANC is heading for a legal showdown with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Electoral Court over supposed technical IT glitches that saw it failing to log the correct candidates in time for municipalities in three provinces; first the Eastern Cape, the Free State, and now the problem’s bigger in KwaZulu-Natal too. The DA, though, is fighting to have the final say in the case ahead of the November 4th polls. In other news, Water and Sanitation Minister, Pemmy Majodina, puts her foot in it by swearing at a disabled resident at a Kouga Local Municipality sewer pump launch event in Loerie this week, with opposition parties now pushing to have her punished by Parliament.     'Cat' back in court after dock disorder, and apartheid's 'Dr Shock' dies in Canada

    The notorious tender don Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala and his co-accused are expected back in the dock of the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg this Thursday for their attempted murder trial. Confusion, shouting and shoving occurred in the courtroom on Tuesday when police officials, including members of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), forced the accused back to the holding cells without allowing them to consult their lawyers first.     Feroz Khan fired from SAPS, and Saturday's Soweto flyover cancelled | UNREAD

    The Madlanga Commission is no longer willing to entertain Feroz Khan’s excuse that he cannot appear before the inquiry due to his repeated hospitalisations, and orders that he be examined by an independent doctor. The now ex-senior SAPS Crime Intelligence official was first expected to give evidence in June, but was shot and wounded just days before in Johannesburg. Failing to appear at both the commission and his concurrent SAPS disciplinary hearings in recent weeks, Khan was fired from the police on Wednesday night for the latter reason. Meanwhile, SA Airlink has pulled its plans to cap off Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry with another stadium flyover on home soil this Saturday at Soweto’s FNB Stadium, as the Civil Aviation Authority probes its pilots’ stunt at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium last Saturday.
