After decades of misdiagnosis, Tara was relieved when she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and finally received the right treatment. As a single mom in a small rural town, she was transparent with her children about her mental health struggles and reinforced the importance of being open and honest during these conversations, especially as they experienced the prevalent stigma from locals and loved ones after her diagnosis. Tara is Unseen & Unheard season 2 host Kody’s wonderful mother, and her story highlights the importance of communication and understanding when caring for a loved one, or even yourself.

Excellent

Kody does an amazing job interviewing the guests of the show. His questions open doors for guests to share things I’m not sure others really think about. Each guest brings their own take on things as each has different ways of coping and keeping things in check for themselves. I like hearing about their coping and the differences each guest has. All the episodes are really good. My personal favorite is Tara, who is Kody’s mom. Hearing how she navigated her mental health journey while raising children and to be telling it all to her host and son is pretty neat. Getting his perspective as one of Tara’s children growing up in the household warms my heart and gives hope to many others navigating the same road with maybe a few side paths.

This show!!!!!

I am so happy to have found this. Schizophrenia is one of the most misunderstood neurodiversities out there. I love hearing from people with the diagnosis and how they cope and create in a society that doesn't accept them.

Recommending to everyone I know

This podcast gives great insights into the struggles that people with mental illness and their families deal with. I also love that there is also happiness, humor and positivity. Glen asks the right questions being both curious and empathetic.
