    Could tenant really end the housing crisis? We spoke with the tenant organizer Tracy Rosenthal about their co-written book which proposes a radical transformation to our broken housing system. This week we spoke with Tracy Rosenthal, a cofounder of the LA tenants union to discuss their new book, co-written by Leonardo Vilchis, which is out now. In the book, they outline a history of the tenant organizing movement and present a manifesto for fighting the so-called “housing crisis.” Framing rising evictions, rents, and unprecedented street homelessness as a crisis of housing, they argue, mudies the real tension: the imbalance of power between tenant and landlord. “Rent is a power relation that produces inequality, traps us in poverty, and denies us the capacity to live as we choose.” Their book is out now through Haymarket books.
