#04 How to Turn Your Big Career Mistakes into Big Career Opportunities | Mark Rogers

In this episode we’ll take a deep dive together on a specific business case with a leader who successfully climbed the corporate ladder using feedback as a competitive career advantage. You’ll hear how our guest, Mark Rogers, gathered feedback the right way and applied a daily helping of humility to accelerate his learning curve and propel his career trajectory. In fact, his pathway was anything but ordinary. Rather than following the blueprint of getting an MBA right out of college, he followed in the footsteps of his fathers’ long and lucrative 40-year career at IBM. Mark plunged himself into the fast-moving sales division of the tech giant and, to this day, credits much of his success to the feedback he received along the way. For Mark, the willingness to regularly seek out feedback about what isn’t working correctly is essential. While not always an easy task, anyone with ambition must have the courage to embrace the discomfort of receiving potentially painful feedback, internalizing it and charting a new course of action based on the input. For him, that meant staying hungry to learn from anyone willing to teach. But how exactly did he do it and what can we apply to our own career today? You’re about to find out. Listen in. #02: The #1 Trick for an Easy Career in the Future | Art Coombs

Would you rather live an easy life now, avoid challenges, and deal with the consequences later? Or are you willing to sacrifice comfort today, tackle the hard decisions now, to achieve a future of financial security, health, and life fulfillment? Today’s guest, Art Coombs, explains that there are two ways we can look at getting things done: The hard-easy method or the easy-hard method.  Art Coombs is a leadership speaker, author, and business development professional with over 25 years of experience working with multi-million dollar global firms.  In this episode, Art Coombs explains how small, consistent acts of delaying gratification eventually bring about outstanding success. To help others achieve their career goals, Art says this “The harder you work initially, the easier you’ll have it later.” Successful people are set apart from those who fail because they use challenges to improve their lives, while others avoid challenges and stay complacent. Even through failure, learning from our mistakes paves the path for eventual success. Art also states how motivation is essential, but habit is a better ingredient for success than motivation alone. Listen in, as every insight Art Coombs shares will leave you eager for your own upgrade.  If you have feedback on today’s episode, find me over on Instagram @johnpackercoaching, or email john@johnpackercoaching.com - I’d love to hear from you. #01: How to Unlock Enormous Career Success by Living on the Competitive Edge | Ben Taylor

It’s certainly no breaking news – artificial Intelligence is taking over the world. Yet, it appears there’s no straight path to the top in an AI career. In this episode of Upgrade Your Career, you’ll be hearing from Ben Taylor, and how he found a fulfilling connection between snowboarding, calculus, high-performance computing, and a cutting-edge career. How exactly did Ben Taylor go from living in a tent in the woods – with his entire belongings holed up in six lockers in a gym – to redesigning his life and the future of artificial intelligence?  Ben’s eighteen-year journey first took him from studying chemical engineering at the University of Utah to working on photolithography, process control, and yield prediction at Intel and Micron. Next stop was taking on the role of High-Performance Computing and AI expert at AIQ, an artificial intelligence hedge fund, building models on a 600-GPU cluster to make stock predictions from the news.  Seven patents later, he helped to deliver HireVue’s AI insights product for candidate interviews. He eventually co-founded Zeff.ai, to provide deep learning insights for enterprises. All of this, before a phenomenal upgrade as Chief AI Strategist at DataRobot.  This podcast is all you need to reboot your career as Ben shows you there’s virtue in taking the bull by the horn and looking forward. Listen to the show and let Ben Taylor show you how.
