The Finnish Foundation for Economic Education awarded a student, Aase Timonen, roughly $30,000 to fund her doctoral research into “transmedia worldbuilding in massive game franchises,” using the Warhammer franchise as her focus. Her research, conducted at the Game Research Lab at Tampere University, will examine how the broad spread of media (miniatures, novels, rules, etc.) has shaped Warhammer’s development, its shift toward competitive play, and its increasing canonicity. The classic 1984 Toon TTRPG is returning with a new 2nd Edition from Steve Jackson Games, slated for a Backerkit crowdfunding launch on December 17, 2025. Game designer Steve Jackson explains that the update, conceived at least four years prior, is being done because he likes the game and felt it was due. Key changes in the new edition include the simplification of character creation, the introduction of mnemonics, and a dramatic streamlining of the “Fall Down” mechanic to be based on missing three actions instead of three calendar minutes, eliminating clock-watching. The new edition will feature new art by Kyle Miller, all in color, and will be available in both hard and softcover. Draw Steel: Crack the Sun is a crowdfunder by MCDM Productions, which has successfully raised over $1.8 million. The campaign aims to determine the future of the Draw Steel product line and includes seven new products for 2026. Heineman was also a trailblazer for transgender game developers, transitioning mid-career in 2003, and was honored with the Gayming Icon Award for her work and advocacy. Old School Essentials (OSE) will have a 2026 Update, which aims to streamline the core product line of the beloved old-school RPG. Necrotic Gnome is consolidating its five existing core products into two definitive, 256-page hardcovers: the OSE Player’s Book and Referee’s Book, based on the popular Advanced Fantasy ruleset. The new books will feature a new cover design, approximately 200 new illustrations, enhanced introductory material, a glossary and index, and minor rule tweaks and optional rules (like training and XP for magic items). Crucially, the update ensures 100% compatibility with older OSE books and makes the entire core game 100% OGL-Free for long-term legal safety. Both Fantasy Grounds and Alchemy VTT announced that their core platforms are now completely free to play. Steamforged Games announced a significant price reduction (a $101/£74/€88 subsidy) for the Town Founder Pledge of the Terra Mystica Special Edition on Gamefound, lowering the price from $389 to $288, based on community feedback that the original price was too high for the full five-expansion bundle. The campaign is already highly funded. IDW Games is releasing the first-ever tabletop RPG for the Godzilla franchise, titled Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game. It is being developed by former Warhammer legends Jervis Johnson, Mark Latham, and Gav Thorpe. The game is set in the “Kai-Sei Era” from the IDW comics and focuses on players joining G-Force to stop kaiju attacks. Notably, the system will be completely diceless, using a standard 52-card playing deck for mechanics. A Kickstarter launches in March 2026, with previews at PAX Unplugged. Pinball Crawl Classics (Goodman Games): Goodman Games has licensed classic 1970s and 1980s pinball machine brands to create Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC RPG) adventures. The Pinball Crawl Classics boxed set will feature five adventures based on the plots of pinball machines like Gorgar, Centaur, Swords of Fury, Embryon, and Cosmic Gunfight. The product will be offered via crowdfunding in January 2026. New Paizo Store Launch: Paizo is launching a new e-commerce store powered by Big Commerce, replacing their proprietary system. Paizo.com will go offline at 8 a.m. Pacific on Monday, November 10th, for an expected 2-3 day transition. Users will need to reset their passwords for the new store and verify their payment methods, addresses, downloads, and Paizo Plus reward tiers after the launch. Paranoia: Five Clones from Alpha Complex (Miniatures Wargame): A preorder announcement for a new tabletop miniatures adventure wargame based on the Paranoia RPG, titled Paranoia: Five Clones from Alpha Complex. Project Sigil was a 3D Virtual Tabletop (VTT) developed by Wizards of the Coast, announced in August 2022 as part of the “One D&D” initiative and built using the Unreal Engine. It officially launched in late February 2025, aiming to provide an immersive 3D experience with detailed miniatures, customizable terrain, and cinematic spell effects, integrated with D&D Beyond accounts.However, development was permanently ended in October 2025.Users who accessed Sigil with a paid or trial Master Tier subscription between March 1, 2025, and October 23, 2025, received a six-month Master Tier credit. Customers who pre-ordered the 2024 Digital and Physical Core Rulebook Bundle and received a Sigil-exclusive Gold Dragon Digital Miniature will receive a new digital dice set as a replacement.
