Beyond Thyroid Hormones: Unlocking Optimal Thyroid Health with Dr. Corey Schuler

Welcome to The One Medicine Podcast, where we explore the intersection of integrative, functional, and conventional medicine with today’s leading experts. In this episode, host Rob Lutz sits down with Dr. Corey Schuler, PhD, FNP, CNS, Director of Medical Affairs at Allergy Research Group, to unpack one of the most misunderstood yet critical topics in health—thyroid function. From the subtle signs of hypothyroidism to the complex interplay between autoimmune conditions, cardiovascular risk, stress response, and nutrient status, Dr. Schuler shares an evidence-based, patient-centered approach to thyroid care that goes far beyond standard lab tests. Key Takeaways: Thyroid dysfunction is often viewed as a chronic condition, but it can be effectively managed and even reversed through a comprehensive, integrative approach.Dr. Schuler has developed an evidence-based protocol that addresses the root causes of thyroid disorders, empowering patients to regain control of their health. This protocol combines targeted supplementation, dietary and lifestyle modifications, and strategies to support the immune system and reduce inflammation.Overview: Thyroid disorders are increasingly prevalent, affecting millions of people, particularly women.Dr. Schuler challenges the conventional view that thyroid issues are chronic and can only be managed with medication. He shares his natural protocol that has helped many of his patients optimize their thyroid function and improve their overall well-being.The protocol focuses on addressing the underlying causes of thyroid dysfunction, including:Comprehensive thyroid testing (TSH, free T4, free T3, thyroid antibodies) Targeted supplementation (e.g., selenium, iodine, vitamin D, B vitamins) Dietary and lifestyle changes (e.g., stress management, sleep optimization, exercise) Strategies to support the immune system and reduce inflammation Dr. Schuler emphasizes the importance of looking beyond just thyroid hormones and addressing the broader factors that contribute to thyroid health.By understanding this integrative approach, healthcare practitioners can better support their patients in achieving optimal thyroid function and overall metabolic well-being. Using Nutrigenomics in Your Practice to Improve Clinical Outcomes

Discussing the powerful properties of Sulforaphane    In this episode of the OneMedicine Podcast, featuring Matt Lim, BAppSc, BHSc, we dive into using nutrigenomics to improve health outcomes with a focus on addressing oxidative stress.. We review nutrigenomics at a high level and discussed activating the NRF2 pathway using compounds like sulforaphane from broccoli sprouts. We discussed how practitioners can apply these nutrigenomic principles in their practice.   Speaker Bio:   Matt Lim is an Integrative Dietitian who has always been fascinated by the power of food to promote health, nourish the body and tantalize the taste buds. When studying Biochemistry, Matt became enamored with the potential of phytochemicals to improve health and wellness and remains especially fascinated by the medicinal properties of various culinary herbs and spices.   It is this enquiring mindset that led Matt to join Cell-Logic to further his understanding and help educate and empower clinicians to benefit from a wholefood and lifestyle-based, treatment paradigm.   Growing up in a culturally diverse family, Matt learned to love all types of food and its preparation; he still cooks with passion to this day. 6. The Psychedelic Revolution

    3月19日

    The Psychedelic Revolution

We are in the midst of a psychedelic revolution with virtually every major academic medical institution in the US operating a psychedelic research lab. Psilocybin is one of the best studied of these substances, acting through a variety of mechanisms including BDNF generated neuroplasticity, anti-inflammatory immune modulation, neurotransmitter activation (serotonin HT2A/B, dopamine, glutamine), gut-brain axis support, and more, the active ingredient in "magic mushrooms" supports a high state of neural entropy which is believed to be a primary mechanism in the ability to rewire the brain and address old burdens with a new perspective.    With an impeccable safety profile and very compelling outcomes with a variety of mental health and neurological conditions ranging from depression and anxiety to addiction, trauma, and dementia, psilocybin remains a Schedule 1 drug and illegal in most states and municipalities. There are, however, a few exceptions.    Based on the 2018/19 FDA designation as a Breakthrough Therapy, the doors to research are open wider than ever. And under the protection of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993-federal legislation passed to offer protected use of entheogenic plants within the context of sincere spiritual practice. There is a pathway to access beyond the limited geographic decriminalization offered in Oregon and Colorado. Listen in as I chat with the founders of one such non-profit church, rooted in Naturopathic Medicine principles, as they safely and responsibly bring the healing power of psilocybin to those who can benefit.   Speaker Bios: Rev. Leah Linder, ND With a background in biochemistry and emergency medicine, Leah is a naturopathic physician trained in psychedelic-assisted therapy with deep expertise in natural supplement formulation and manufacturing. She is a Master Gardener, experienced educator, and ordained minister.   Rev. Pam Conboy With a background in biology, Pam was trained as a clinical laboratorian and is currently a doctoral student in naturopathic medicine. She is an IIN-certified health coach, trained psychedelic facilitator, medical marketing business development entrepreneur, and ordained minister. pamconboy@setasseminary.org     Related Content:   Setas Seminary Site: http://setasseminary.org/   Become a Setas Seminary Member (free and open to all US adults): https://www.setasseminary.org/become-a-member/   Subscribe to the Free Weekly Setas Seminary Newsletter: https://www.setasseminary.org/newsletter/       Thanks for listening in. 7. Resolving Inflammation with Botanicals, Nutrients, and Lifestyle Changes

    1月23日

Resolving Inflammation with Botanicals, Nutrients, and Lifestyle Changes

Today we’re talking with Dr. Lexi Loch about Inflammation. Inflammation can be life-saving and also life-threatening. The acute inflammatory response helps the body heal, defend, and repair. However, when inflammation persists without resolution, chronic inflammation ensues. Chronic inflammation is one of the biggest contributors to chronic health conditions. Prioritizing lifestyle and nutrition changes can make a huge impact, along with targeted supplementation. Curcumin with turmeric essential oil has been shown to modulate almost every inflammatory pathway in the body, while also promoting resolution of inflammation. Boswellia excels at modulating inflammation from the 5-LOX pathway, which can translate to reductions in lung, gastrointestinal, and joint inflammation. Omega-3 fatty acids are precursors to compounds called specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs), like resolvins and protectins, that help resolve inflammation.   Dr. Lexi Loch, ND received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine, where she graduated with highest honors. In addition to her practice, she is a medical writer and editor, researcher, educator, and patient advocate. Her articles have been published in various natural health periodicals and reference books. Prior to her education as a physician, Dr. Loch worked in veterinary medicine as a certified veterinary technician. She is also an accomplished athlete, playing collegiate volleyball and participating in overseas tournaments, an avid snowboarder, and has been world-ranked in downhill longboarding.    Related Content:   Pain Relief: Beyond NSAIDs - https://todayspractitioner.com/pain-management/pain-relief-beyond-nsaids/   Curcumin and Turmerones: A Powerful Natural Medicine Explained - https://todayspractitioner.com/botanical-medicine/curcumin-and-turmerones-a-powerful-natural-medicine-explained/   Boswellia for Pain: 3 Supporting Studies - https://todayspractitioner.com/botanical-medicine/boswellia-for-pain-3-supporting-studies/     Thanks for listening in.
