What this podcast gets right it gets so, so right. The depiction of mental health struggles is particularly incredible, and the device of having a character’s negative self talk muted in the background during stressful situations is both brilliantly true and a perfect use of the medium. A definite recommend and looking forward to the next season.

I love every character (even when I shouldn't), I feel every emotion (usually all in the same episode), & I'm pretty sure VALENCE does that by design... & there's something to be said for media that makes you reflect on yourself & how to be a better person. Please don't let this show pass you by, because once you start, you'll catch up in no time !!!

An accurate depiction of mental illness that isn’t a default indicator of villainy? Well developed characters of various races, sexualities, and gender identities? Just the representation is enough to guarantee three stars. There is an amazing concept which became a brilliant plot, that earned this five stars. I’d give six if I could for the world building, if I could

I’ve already listened to it twice. I really love all the characters, and the blend of magic/familial issues/mental health/healing themes. I will protect Liam and Flynn at all costs. Also lots of queer identities 🤙

VALENCE has some cool concepts, big ideas, and impressive actors, and I loved the character Nico, but all together the production never quote coalesces. Plot points resolve too conveniently, tension deflates when it needs to build, characters take the time to talk gently and supportively about their feelings when I’d think the looming threat that the Evil Company Knows Where They Live would require a lot less downtime and a lot more preparing. Hoping season 2 will smooth out some of the initial rockiness.

Listened to this while helping my daughter with a tedious project. It really made the time fly.

The realest, most human podcast I’ve ever listened to, fiction or nonfiction- and that’s no small feat. Wonderful, fleshed out characters, paired with an immersive world, with plenty of representation for minority groups. This podcast fills me with hope.

Really good Season 1, with all story and dramatic elements in place. Contemporary urban magic capitalistic spy caper stuff, with deep relationship and psychological elements. Full sound, background music, large and great cast. Show notes, and transcripts, and website too. This production is reliably constructed so audience can be confident episodes will be released on schedule. And the world building is so thorough the characters seem like real people ... you can imagine their lives beyond the plot. Plus, there is a plot, which is a rare delight!

This is important work. I think representation in stories helps broaden our worldview, and this podcast does that while remaining fun and funny. Feels truly like a communal effort. Great urban fantasy with an interesting incorporation of magic. Very relatable characters. Cannot wait for more
