    Finish Strong!

Semester-itis is a common malady for students this time of year. Now is the time to set a clear goal to finish strong in all that God has called you to. Listen in on the conversation to learn "The Mailbox Trick" and all our best tips to avoid regret as you finish out the semester. Prefer to watch? https://youtu.be/IYHJwrlgboc Steve read these excerpts from Andreas Köstenberger's book, Excellence, (https://amzn.to/4lMK56v): "Diligence is hard. It is tough. It is far easier to slack off, take an easier road, follow shortcuts, or simply give up. Diligence is particularly difficult in our fast-food, microwave culture... There is no way to get around the fact that diligence requires large and consistent amounts of sheer hard work. There are no shortcuts. We must embrace the value of hard work... Diligence requires thoroughness rather than superficiality... Laziness may be as innocuous as procrastination and the making of excuses for not actually getting anything done. This indulgent disposition often leads to a last-minute rush... Diligence is the surest antidote to these vices. Several specific habits should be developed. First, wake up early. Nothing kills a morning's productivity faster than sleeping in. Second, develop a conscious routine..." Learning Vocation from Flannery O'Connor

Last week would have been Flannery O'Connor's 100th birthday. Even if you've never read a short story by this queen of Southern Gothic fiction, there is a surprising amount we can learn about Christian calling from her life and writings. And, we were joined at Supper Club last week by Dr. Gary Steward, Dean of Humanities at Colorado Christian University. His advice to college students is simple and yet quite profound... with potentially life-shaping implications. Prefer to watch? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMzwFnjgu_E Nicole read this quotation from Jonathan Rogers's biography of Flannery O'Connor entitled, The Terrible Speed of Mercy (https://amzn.to/3E1elcw): "Perhaps the most shocking thing about O’Connor’s fiction is the fact that it is shaped by a thoroughly Christian vision. If the world she depicts is dark and terrifying, it is also the place where grace makes itself known. 'My subject in fiction is the action of grace in territory largely held by the Devil,' she wrote. O’Connor’s broken world—our world—is the stage where the divine comedy is acted out." — — — — — Vocatio: conversations about Christian calling for college students.
