CFO Voicenotes from Harriet Formby

Harriet Formby

CFO Voicenotes is unfiltered, unscripted, unedited finance chat. Just like receiving a voice note from your pal. This came about because my clients love to receive my heartfelt pep talks, explainers, rants, and words of wisdom on all things finance - and why not expand it? Sometimes you need a pep talk. Sometimes you need someone to explain a money thing without making you feel stupid. Sometimes you need permission to do it differently, or a reminder that the way we've been told to run businesses is mostly bullsh*t patriarchal nonsense. Sometimes you just need to hear someone else ramble while you're on a walk or doing the dishes. That's what this is. often unhinged. Blunt. Trauma-informed. Real and hopefully a really helpful and accessible way to engage with finances and money. I'm Harriet Formby founder of Below The Line Finance® and a Fractional CFO, ICAEW Chartered Accountant and trauma-informed finance coach. I work with mission-driven founders who refuse to choose between profit and purpose. I'm also (probably) AuDHD, pro entrepreneurship but very much anti-capitalist, and running my business from an off-grid office in Somerset woodland surrounded by horses and chickens. There's no rules and no schedule - I simply press record when I have something to share. That could mean three times a week and then nothing for six months but I will always return! 6. What Would Your Pet Say About Your Business?

Could your pet be your best business mentor? For those of us with pets, they’re not just cute distractions while we work—they’re witnesses to our business journey. From snoozing beside us during client work to crashing our Zoom meetings, they see it all. But what if they actually have something profound and practical to teach us about business, money, and confidence? In this episode, we explore:  What our pets can teach us about business—and why they don’t hesitate, overthink, or undervalue themselves.  Lessons from my whippet, Alfonzo—how his boldness, confidence, and ability to just go for it are exactly what I needed in business.  A fun experiment: What would your pet say if you asked them for financial or business advice? (And yes, I’m serious—try it!)  Why business finance doesn’t have to be dry, jargon-heavy, or overwhelming—and what’s coming next on the podcast to make it more engaging, clear, and actually useful.
