    Memorial Day - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge

    Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer for many of us, with family vacations and backyard barbeques on our minds. Memorial Day is a time to reflect prayerfully on our U.S. military service members, on the tremendous gift of their service to our nation in preserving our constitutional way of life and our rights and freedoms which allow us to pursue the happiness that comes by living lives of virtue. May we honor all those men and women who bravely served and who surrendered their very lives in military service throughout our history, including in present times. Today and always, may we honor the fallen who have freely gone to their eternal rest, and who ensured that we remain one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

    By faith, your life can be transformed for the better - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge

    The people who touched the cloak of Jesus believed in his power to heal them, and he did. Sacred scripture recounts many who were healed because of their faith in the Lord, whom they knew could change their lives for the better. Our Lord continues to invite us to approach him with faith, for he longs to heal our infirmities, forgive our sins, relieve our distress, and ease our burdens. Try not to be discouraged amid crosses and burdens, for we can never lose hope in the Lord's power to heal us and transform our lives physically, spiritually, and emotionally in ways we cannot imagine. Today, pray for the grace to persevere in faith and with trust in the Lord's healing love and saving power.

    "It is I, do not be afraid!"- One Minute with Bishop Burbidge

    Amid the "stormy waters" we are experiencing in these turbulent times, Jesus speaks to us: "It is I, do not be afraid!" He who walked on the sea and calmed the winds is in our midst and will lead us to brighter days. In him, we find serenity. So, surrender any fear and have faith! The Lord invites us to place our trust completely in him. When we ask God for help and the graces necessary to stay strong amid the challenges and burdens of daily life, we will find that he equips us with all that we need each day. He will ease our fears and anxieties and bring calmness and serenity into our lives. No wonder he says: "It is I—do not be afraid!"

    Mother's Day - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge

    Together, this Sunday, we have the great privilege of celebrating Mother's Day—a distinctly American and Christian occasion to honor all those mothers whose love and example make them role models in our families, communities, and workplaces. Many of us will be planning a surprise delivery, family dinners, or maybe a visit home. Yet the best way to honor our mothers is by being loving sons and daughters who put into practice the faith and virtues we have learned from them. We give thanks for the gift of our mothers and for the many ways they reflect God's love for us through their faithfulness, sacrifices, and compassionate care. Happy Mother's Day! And to our departed mothers: May God grant them eternal rest and peace.

    #173: How to hear God's call in everyday life

    On this episode of Walk Humbly, Bishop Burbidge reflects on the first anniversary of the death of Pope Francis and how we can look to his example of holy perseverance.     "Making Good Decisions" - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge

    Each day we are faced with decisions—some small and others life-changing. It is always helpful to remember that God wants us to rely on him so that, by his grace, we might make truly good decisions.   If you are struggling with a problem or difficult situation, pause for a moment and pray: "Lord, inspire, enlighten, and guide me." Then, be still and silent and listen.    Whether you are making decisions concerning yourself, loved ones, or friends, you can be confident that God desires to guide you toward a future full of hope and true happiness. The Lord is always the answer and the path forward! May each of us turn to God with confidence, asking for his assistance in all that we do.

    With God, We Can Travel Lightly - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge

    Jesus sent forth his apostles and told them to leave behind anything that would weigh them down as they went out to share the Good News of the Gospel. This advice remains true for each of us today who wish to faithfully follow our Lord. It can be easy to feel "weighed down" by our daily concerns and responsibilities—with a list of emails, errands, appointments, and phone calls making any given day a whirlwind of activity. Although God have assigned each of us certain responsibilities, and expects that we faithfully carry them out, he never desires for us to feel overly burdened or trapped by circumstances.  What is the Lord asking you to surrender—perhaps fear, doubt, distress, or worldly concerns? Trust that in Jesus, you have all you need. Then, "travel lightly" throughout this day.
