    Prayer welcoming the Holy Spirit

    This prayer is inspired by a passage on page 28 of a book called “The Sound of Life’s Unspeakable Beauty” by Martin Schleske. Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit, you are welcome in my heart and in my life. I desire your presence. Help me to become aware of. Any part of me that is not welcoming you. May I not be mixed: part of me welcoming you and part of me shunning you. Help me to become aware so that I can pray through and think through those barriers and ask for your help. To let go of them. Help me to be single minded, wholehearted in my invitation and welcome of you. Come Holy Spirit, help me to do God's will. Amen.

    Prayer for freedom from selfish desires

    Transcript: Come, holy spirit, I ask that you would help me to let go of selfish reasons for doing things: leaving a conversation when it's no longer interesting to me.. Being part of something, if there's something in it for me. Doing something because it's convenient for me. So much of my life is still mired in that, in the way I think and my habits, But sometimes by your grace, I do something for your sake, for the sake of someone else. I ask that you would help me to do that more often. Show me the beauty of it. The goodness of it. Help me to notice the decisions I am making out of selfishness. help me to become aware. Give me grace to. Let go. To let go of those desires. Help me to listen to your leading. Give me creativity in how I let go.. Whether it's stopping certain habits or starting new ones or taking a different way to work. I ask for creativity and courage from you and your grace. and that you would help me to be patient and trusting to listen for you to guide me out of this mire and into the freedom of love. Amen.

    Prayer to be a conduit of God’s love

    Inspired by Frank Laubach and his book “Prayer - the mightiest force in the world” Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit. I want to be a conduit of your love today. May my eyes look with love. May I see the inherent goodness and dignity. of every person. May I see. the sorrows that they are carrying, the wounds that they have. and be kindled with compassion and gentleness for them. May my ears, listen with love today, to hear what people are really saying. what they're really asking for. Help me to be attentive to their needs. If they say something good to me, help me to trust it. and not... deny it, but to accept it, with humility. If they say something, critical of me, again, help me to accept it with humility. Help me to be open to feedback. Help me to grow in awareness. Help me to trust that they... care about me. May my tongue. speak with love today. May I say things that are true. May I say nothing that is false. May I speak with grace and gentleness. Speaking when love calls for it and being silent, when love calls for it. May my hands be conduits of love. May I do nothing. In any kind of violent way today with my hands.. may I be gentle, caring. May your love flow through my hands to anyone that I touch. and bring comfort, healing, and warmth. Amen.

    Prayer of intellectual surrender

    Transcript: Come Holy Spirit I come to you in surrender thinking about how many times my thoughts and heart have been. shipwrecked on mystery and paradox. and how my dualistic, rational mind. just struggles and cannot understand. those things, cannot understand You, first of all. Life, death. suffering. Grace. Forgiveness, love. So I come to you acknowledging these things are beyond me. I let go of the desire to try to understand them in a way that completely encircles them and explains them and makes them something that I have power over. And instead, I come, I surrender to you, saying, I cannot. understand them. I desire to understand them in whatever way, you would have me understand them.. And I. open my hands, and I am ready to receive. O Lord, My heart is not lifted up. My eyes are not raised too high. I do not occupy myself with things too great, too marvelous for me, but I have calmed and quieted myself like a weaned child. like a weaned child. Like his mother is my soul within me. (Psalm 131) Amen

    Prayer for grace to hear God

    Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit. Help me to hear how what you are saying to me. You know I have. so many thoughts. Feelings in my heart. Things around me and within me that are distracting. In your grace I ask that you would help me to let go. To be able to hear you. I want to hear what you're saying to me. I know that many times I have.. ignored what you have been saying. And my ears. have become dull. I believe that in your grace you can help me to hear you. Help me to hear what you're saying. Amen.

    Prayer for love over indulgence

    Come Holy Spirit, Help me to see and believe in my heart of hearts that indulgence in my own desires can never bring me the kind of deep peace and contentment that I long for. Help me to see the truth of that. And to see it as a dead end. And abandon it as a strategy. To help me to see the pattern. of becoming excited about some new shiny thing. Something that I desire and indulging in it. Experiencing some kind of brief pleasure or a contentment. before it just melts away into a deeper thirst. And I feel the poison of indulging my own desires. That makes me feel even further away. from the true peace in the true contentment that I long for. help me to see that pattern and recognize it the very start when the desire is kindling in me. Help me to bring instead. My thirst and my desires to you. help me to grow and prayer and the capacity to hold those desires. In your presence, lift them up to you. Surrender to you. Help me to see the beauty and the possibility of. surrendering those desires to you, trusting you. Hoping in you. And that trust and hope expressing itself in love. And loving obedience to you. and loving and humble service to others. help me to see the possibilities and the promise. of that kind of life in a way that draws me toward it. to choose it more and more for myself. Help me to.. pay attention to other people's stories who have lived that way, and their testimony about how.. It leads to incredible richness. intimacy with you. It leads to a deep satisfaction and peace and contentment. and help me to also. just pay attention to the beautiful effects that their lives have had in other people. The legacies they have. help all of that enthrall my heart and my mind, so that more and more. I choose and I want to choose that kind of life for myself. In your mercy and in your grace. help me in this. Amen.

    Prayer of surrender to God’s love

    Transcript: Come Holy Spirit. I surrender. to the love that you have for me in this moment. Help me to surrender. I yield to the love that you have for me in this moment. Help me to yield. I accept.. that in this moment, I am precious to you. and you have great love for me. Help me to accept that. I release. anything that would block me.. From accepting that you love me in this moment. help me to release those things. I let go of anything that. I am holding on to that is getting in the way of being with you, of receiving the love that you have from me in this moment. help me to let go of those things things. I rest in the love that you have for me in this moment. Help me to rest in it. Amen.

    Prayer for hope in God’s love flowing through others

    Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit I pray for miles. I pray that you would. Fill him with hope. that you. are working in the lives of many, many people are around the world.. That you are. mending their souls. that you are kindling in them. The holy love of you.. That you are transforming them into the kind of people who whose lives are centered around Agape love. And more and more they love you with their whole heart, soul, strength, and mind. and they love their neighbor as themselves. I pray that you would fill his mind. with this image. of your love. flowing through all these people. to the world. And that it would kindle in him hope. that you are not distant, but you are near. That he is not the only one who mourns when he sees evil in the world. And that to him. the opportunity is also extended. Your love can flow through him. that your goodness is something that he can know and experience. and trust. And that he can be part of this group of people. Amen.
