    Prayer inspired by the Lord’s Prayer

    This is an example of one way of praying the Lord’s Prayer, using each request as a jumping off point to explore and express related desires. It has been rightly said that all prayer is contained in the Lord’s Prayer. Transcript: Father, I want everyone to. Know you and enjoy you. To see and experience your goodness, and treasure you. I want your way of doing things to triumph in the world, on Earth. How I long for people to see that your way is good. That your will is wise and beautiful. I want us to put it into practice. and know that ever more deeply. I want everyone to have what they need. Food and water, shelter. Friendship, meaning. I long for everyone to have this. I want everyone to... experience your forgiveness, your generosity, your love. and to experience freedom, from bitterness, freedom, from. sorrow that is just.. Death. I want everyone to know. the joy of that freedom. The lightness that comes from.. Letting go. Your joy. that somehow, meets us in our sorrow and makes it not only sorrow, not only death, but also life. I want everyone to be consciously choosing. Goodness. With everything that they are. Experience being guided and shepherded by you into deeper and deeper, love and joy. Andnt find so much, satisfaction in there, to be so sure that that is where life is. That more and more we reject all temptations. More and more we persevere, in trials. We are able to walk. I want us to be able to walk and trust and humble trust of you. At peace in the deep places, because of our love for you and our trust. I want everyone to experience. being rescued by you. To experience your power, doing something that we cannot do. The joy and gratitude, of being safe. I would everyone to feel that they are safe with you. Hidden in your love, sheltered by you, defended by you, even if they're suffering. to experience transformation of our own hearts and minds to be able to be someone who looks back on who we were. And be very thankful. and know that we have been. delivered not only from evil outside of us, but from evil that is within us. Help us to love you with everything that we are. Help us all to be full of love, for each other. compassionate, toward each other's needs, patient with each other's faults. Finding our joy and our peace in you. Amen.

    Cardinal Mercier’s prayer of surrender to God

    I found this prayer in Appendix I of “In The School of the Holy Spirit” by Jacques Philippe Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit. Help my imagination to be... quiet. Help me to close my eyes. to everything other than you. To shut my ears, to all of the noise of the world. Help me to withdraw. to the sanctuary of my baptized soul. Which is your temple. Holy Spirit. Soul of my soul. I adore you. Enlighten me. Guide me. Strengthen and comfort me. Tell me what I ought to do, and help me to do it. I promise to submit to anything that you request from me. and to accept everything that you allow to happen to me Just show me what your will is. Amen.

    Prayer for immediate resistance of temptation (Ignatius rule 12)

    Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit. Give me grace. to resist. The enemy at the very beginning of the temptations. I ask. for power from you to be bold and decisive and rejecting temptation. Quick to reject it. Help me to do diametrically the opposite.. of what the enemy. proposes. Help me to see the truth that. If I give the enemy a little ground, it becomes so much harder to resist. That to give him. some ground. gives him more power and. increases the fury of his wrath against me. Help me to remember. I think of a a snowball, and how it is so. easily stopped at the very beginning of its rolling down the mountain and so difficult if it has gained some speed and some momentum.. Help me think about how great a forest is burned by such a small spark. Help me to see. evil thoughts. Evil desires. Small evil actions. as containing that same potential for destruction. and by your grace and power and protection. Help me to reject evil. not at the very beginning. fully, decisively. And helped me too. find. kind of contentment and peace. knowing that there's. nothing of vitality about it, that it is.. It has nothing to offer me. Amen.

    Prayer for maturity in consolation and desolation (Ignatius rule 11) Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit. When I am in consolation. Help me to focus on humbling myself. And lowering myself as much as I can. Thinking about how when I was in time of desolation. How little I was able to do. without your grace and consolation. I'm thinking about. in future seasons at Desolation, how. How little I'll be able to do on my own without you. And when I am in desolation. help me to put my trust in you. Help me to think. I can do much with the grace that you give me. to resist all my enemies. taking strength from you, my Creator and Lord. In consolation help me to not be puffed up. Thinking that it's my own strength. Help me to rest. In you, and deeply know. My humble state. And in desolation help me to not despair. Again, help me to not. Look at what I can do by myself and despair, because I feel so weak. me to think, not of my own strength. But of your strength and your grace. And therefore help me to not be..in despair in desolation. But to think to myself, the grace is sufficient that you're giving me. I can get through this safely. I can even grow. Because you are protecting me, and you are sustaining me. Amen.

    Prayer for faithfulness to the inspirations of grace

    Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit. I ask that you would help Logan to become more aware of whatever special inspirations of grace you have for him. help him to notice your voice Help him to know you as his guide. his counselor. I pray that you would give him grace to respond. to your direction, with trust, to do what you ask Him to do, to abandon himself to you, that he might receive even more grace than guidance from your hand. God, I know that you are generous. You love to pour out grace. You are ready to guide. You are ready to help him. make yourself near to him. I pray also that you would give him. Grace to do everything. he knows. You already want him to do. Things that you have made plain in your word, things that you have made plain to him before. He would be faithful to all of what you're asking him to do, not just special inspirations. Lord, may he enjoy the peace of someone who is fully surrendered to you. I pray that he would find much contentment and joy in you.. Amen.

    Prayer welcoming the Holy Spirit

    This prayer is inspired by a passage on page 28 of a book called “The Sound of Life’s Unspeakable Beauty” by Martin Schleske. Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit, you are welcome in my heart and in my life. I desire your presence. Help me to become aware of. Any part of me that is not welcoming you. May I not be mixed: part of me welcoming you and part of me shunning you. Help me to become aware so that I can pray through and think through those barriers and ask for your help. To let go of them. Help me to be single minded, wholehearted in my invitation and welcome of you. Come Holy Spirit, help me to do God's will. Amen.

    Prayer for freedom from selfish desires

    Transcript: Come, holy spirit, I ask that you would help me to let go of selfish reasons for doing things: leaving a conversation when it's no longer interesting to me.. Being part of something, if there's something in it for me. Doing something because it's convenient for me. So much of my life is still mired in that, in the way I think and my habits, But sometimes by your grace, I do something for your sake, for the sake of someone else. I ask that you would help me to do that more often. Show me the beauty of it. The goodness of it. Help me to notice the decisions I am making out of selfishness. help me to become aware. Give me grace to. Let go. To let go of those desires. Help me to listen to your leading. Give me creativity in how I let go.. Whether it's stopping certain habits or starting new ones or taking a different way to work. I ask for creativity and courage from you and your grace. and that you would help me to be patient and trusting to listen for you to guide me out of this mire and into the freedom of love. Amen.

    Prayer to be a conduit of God’s love

    Inspired by Frank Laubach and his book “Prayer - the mightiest force in the world” Transcript: Come, Holy Spirit. I want to be a conduit of your love today. May my eyes look with love. May I see the inherent goodness and dignity. of every person. May I see. the sorrows that they are carrying, the wounds that they have. and be kindled with compassion and gentleness for them. May my ears, listen with love today, to hear what people are really saying. what they're really asking for. Help me to be attentive to their needs. If they say something good to me, help me to trust it. and not... deny it, but to accept it, with humility. If they say something, critical of me, again, help me to accept it with humility. Help me to be open to feedback. Help me to grow in awareness. Help me to trust that they... care about me. May my tongue. speak with love today. May I say things that are true. May I say nothing that is false. May I speak with grace and gentleness. Speaking when love calls for it and being silent, when love calls for it. May my hands be conduits of love. May I do nothing. In any kind of violent way today with my hands.. may I be gentle, caring. May your love flow through my hands to anyone that I touch. and bring comfort, healing, and warmth. Amen.
