Wanderlust Herbal Ep. 5: Magical Herbalism & Astrology with Elisabeth Brooke

Today I’m joined on the Wanderlust Herbal Podcast by the wonderful Elisabeth Brooke, magical herbalist, astrologer, and author of ten books! We go on a fascinating exploration of plant wisdom, intuitive herbalism, and her expansive journey of working with herbs around the world, running new and full moon magical herbal workshops. You’re warmly invited to tune in via video or audio here on Substack, follow the journey on Spotify, or explore previous episodes on the YouTube channel playlist. Elisabeth and I reflect on our shared experiences, including the seasonal herbal retreats she once led in Scotland. She shares stories from her recent teaching trip to Greece, the origins of her intuitive plant work while living in Amsterdam, and her commitment to simple formulations and working with locally grown herbs wherever she is. A variety of herbal allies emerge in our conversation, including the warrior wisdom of Mugwort and Yarrow, the sunny balm of Calendula, and our takes on the “Marmite” herb, Valerian. ✨ Highlights include: * Meeting Vitex agnus castus in the wild, and the joy of feeling it wave back like an old friend * The deeper spiritual teachings of Lobelia, and how it sparked Elisabeth’s first book * The third-eye clarity and psychic activation of Mugwort (with some caution around the importance of grounding) * Discussing herbal foot and flower baths, including as Elisabeth’s experience of receiving ritual baños - floral baths administered by Haitian women while living in the Caribbean Dominican Republic * Why local plants matter, and the power of herbal simplicity * Insights from her latest book, Ageing Gracefully * Her upcoming year-long Astrology + Herbalism training for practitioners (reach out to Elisabeth for more info and join the waiting list) 🌿 We also talk about: * Discovering plants in local markets while travelling, like my recent encounter with Malaysian Torch Ginger (Bunga Kantan) * Being inspired by the radical politics of 17th-century herbalist, physician and astrologer Nicholas Culpeper, who wrote for the people, not the elite, and a fierce advocate for community medicine and reclaiming local herbal medicine, still very much needed in our modern world. * Mushrooms and Saturnian plant allies for ancestral connection and grounding Elisabeth is a fountain of intuitive and radical healing, a witchy wisdom keeper with decades of lived experience. Our conversation overflows with herbal sass and infused with the aroma of lavender oil, our shared favourite travel remedy. 💜🌱 Connect with Elisabeth Brooke: ✨ Website: elisabethbrooke.com✨ Instagram: @elisabeth.cl.brooke✨ Substack: elisabethbrooke.substack.com 🌱 What parts of our conversation resonated with you most? Wanderlust Herbal Ep. 4: Paradox & Plant Spirit with Chris Brandwein

We are back with another inspiring guest on today’s Wanderlust Herbal Podcast. In our fourth episode, I’m joined by Chris Brandwein, Soul Guide, scientist, intuitive, illustrator, author, multi-passionate, and unlikely messenger of the plant world. Chris lives in the paradox of being part scientist, part channel, part creative. Her journey into plant spirit communication is not what you'd expect. From academic psychiatric research to intuitive plant readings, she’s someone who breaks the mould. In this episode, we explore: 🌿 Chris’s resistance to plants growing up, despite her mother’s lifelong devotion, and how that block unexpectedly cracked open ✨ A spontaneous plant spirit awakening at a party, where plants such as parsley and basil demanded that she deliver their messages 🌀 Holding the tension of working in a psychiatric lab while secretly podcasting intuitive messages from plants 🌿 Learning to trust intuitive messages, even for people who don’t appear to identify as spiritual, and how the plants always know who’s ready 🌻 The importance of not looking up a plant’s traditional meaning until after a reading, to stay open to new messages rather than referring to the known herbal lore 🧪 Chris’s new niche supporting people in career transitions and how the plant spirits surprised her recently by following her into that work with concise, practical wisdom 🌸 Sharing a plant spirit’s magical message that came forward for me on the podcast! And much more… Pour yourself a cup of peppermint tea, Chris’s go-to herb for grounding & clarity, and join us for a wide-ranging, heart-opening herbal ramble through paradox, purpose, and plant wisdom. 💜🌱 Connect with Chris Brandwein * Plant Spirit Oracle Archives * Website: chrisbrandwein.com * YouTube: Freak to Genius * Spotify: The Journey of You: The Joycast * Substack: Sign up for intuitive insights & updates on upcoming Skool communities 🌱 I’d love to hear what spoke to you in this conversation. Wanderlust Herbal Ep. 3: A Herbal Spiral Journey with Fiona Gray

My podcast adventures continue in this third episode of Wanderlust Herbal Podcast with herbalist, massage therapist, counsellor, and plant spirit whisperer, Fiona Gray of Blessed Botanicals. From her barefoot childhood roaming the bush of rural New Zealand to creating gardens up and down Australia’s east coast, Fiona’s herbal path has been rich, winding, and deeply rooted in the earth. A true wanderer at heart, she shares stories of plants as companions, gardens as love letters to the land, and healing as an ever-evolving journey. In this episode, we explore: 🌿 Fiona’s early connection to nature as a child, creating her first veggie garden (of many more) 🌀 Discovering a mysterious spiral in the undergrowth, leading to her first women’s medicinal herb garden and path to becoming a herbalist ✨ Her plant spirit awakening inspired by the Findhorn Garden Story, and how she now guides others in her plant spirit circles 🧳 Travelling as a herbalist, tending gardens while house-sitting, and the challenge and surrender of leaving gardens behind 🌍 Fiona’s longing to visit her ancestral roots in Scotland, yearning to place her hands and feet on the Scottish earth. 🦋 Her herbal business rebirthing, holding the grief of letting go of old manifestations of her herbal medicine and massage practice, and now integrating it with mental health and counselling in new ways We also chat about herbalists who’ve inspired our journeys, spirited predecessors, from local legends to global trailblazers, who remind us what’s possible while walking the green path. Pour yourself a cup of chamomile tea (a trusted travel herbal ally to both of us!) and join us for a heartfelt herbal ramble through land, lineage and a shared love of plant magic. 💜🌱 Connect with Fiona Gray * IG: @blessed_botanicals * Website: blessedbotanicals.com.au (under renovation - coming soon) * Email: fiona.blessedbotanicals@gmail.com I’d love to hear your reflections. This podcast was first recorded in early June 2024, so when you hear us talking about Jupiter just entering Gemini, we are now almost a year on. Jupiter is still in Gemini but soon will be shifting into Cancer on the 9th of June 2025. Wanderlust Herbal Ep. 1: Herbal Time Travelling with Amanda Edmiston

This podcast was first recorded just over a year ago on Earth Day, 22nd April 2024, as the Sun moved into grounded, earthy Taurus. At the time, it didn’t feel quite right to release it, life had other plans. But today, I felt a clear nudge that now is the moment. So, voilà! You’ll hear me refer to it as The Wandering Herbalist in the recording. Since then, I discovered that name was already taken, so I landed on something new. I hope you love it as much as I do. I'm thrilled to begin my new podcast adventure with my enchanting first guest, herbal storyteller, herbalist and author, Amanda Edmiston of Botanica Fabula and A Very Curious Herbal, a course blending plant wisdom with storytelling and ancient traditions. Amanda craftfully intertwines folklore, history and herbal tradition, bringing plants to life through her captivating tales. Join us as we embark on a journey through herbal lore and ancient plant wisdom. In this episode, we dive into Amanda’s herbal and traveller roots, chat about some inspirations behind her book, The Time Traveller’s Herbal, and explore our exciting collab project, Silk Roads - where Amanda shares tales of the plants that traversed these ancient routes, while I write participants a herb inspired letter posted from wherever I might be on my travels around the world. These herbal letters are a way to reconnect with and keep the art of handwritten correspondence alive, spark some plant inspiration, and offer a tactile, thoughtful experience that invites deeper reflection and a sense of adventure. In this episode, we explore: * Amanda's personal journey as a herbalist, storyteller and wandering spirit * Her unique and multi-layered approach to reviving traditional plant lore for contemporary audiences * The art of storytelling as a means of healing and connection * The plants that have inspired Amanda on her travels If you feel drawn to the deeper stories behind plants, or curious to explore the ways less travelled on the herbal path, this episode is a perfect starting point. So, brew a cup of your favourite herbal tea, find a cosy nook, and join us as we set off on this journey with Amanda Edmiston… 🌱 Join us on the journey?
