98 | Zachary Martin, CPT | This Isn't My Job, It's My Life: Strength, Longevity & What Two Decades in the Gym Teaches You

This week we sat down with someone who's been a big part of our world over the last year... Zachary Martin, certified personal trainer and owner of ZM Fitness, who has been in the game for nearly two decades and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Zach grew up as an only child with a health-conscious single mom who showed him early on that movement matters. From watching trainers at the gym as a teenager and quietly studying their every move, to building a full training practice over 19 years in Minneapolis — this episode is a masterclass in what happens when you find the thing you love and just keep showing up for it. We talk about what it actually takes to last in the personal training industry, why strength training is the foundation of everything (yes, everything), and how Zach thinks about programming differently now than he did 15 years ago. He gets honest about the emotional weight of the job — the clients who feel like family, the sessions that hit different, and the irrational fear that everyone will cancel on you at once. We also dig into what it means to practice what you preach, why rest between sets matters more than you think, and how becoming a dad at 39 completely rewired his relationship with movement, longevity, and why he does any of this at all. This one is full of perspective shifts, real talk, and the kind of passion that makes you want to go pick up something heavy. ***** Keep up with Zachary Martin! 97c | "I Did It For Me." — Inside a GMAS Post Race Call w/ Luana Ciccarelli (Part 3 of 3)

Three episodes. One journey. This is the finale. Throughout this call I share my screen and give a real inside look at TrainingPeaks — the app I use to build and manage all of my athletes' training plans. We reference specific workouts and the training calendar directly, which you can only see if you're watching. Audio listeners will still get everything, but if you want the full picture head over to our YouTube channel at youtube.com/@weget2dothis or watch on Spotify. You've heard about run coaching calls before — way back in Episode 12 we did a fly-on-the-wall style call with athlete David. Well, we're doing it again, and this time we're taking it even further. This is it. Part 3 of 3. The finale of our series following Oak Endurance athlete Luana Ciccarelli through her full Grandma's Marathon 2026 journey. If you haven't listened to 97a and 97b yet, go back and start there. The series was intended to showcase what run coaching calls with myself (Coach Jacob) and an Oak Endurance Athlete are like! :-) Luana went in with a goal of sub-4:15. Her PR was 4:19:32. She crossed the finish line at 4:13:55. A six minute PR!!! And this is the full breakdown of how it happened. In this episode we go through the entire race, mile by mile. What the morning felt like, how she executed the pacing plan we built in 97b, the mental tricks that got her through the hard miles, what it felt like to cross the finish line, and what the days after a big goal actually feel like when the dust settles. We also talk about what it means to do something truly for yourself, why post-race blues are more real than people admit, and what has made this training block different from every one before it. This one was worth the wait. This call is specific to Luana and her current training cycle. Every coaching call looks a little different depending on the athlete and their goals. 97b | What Story Do You Want to Tell? Inside a Run Coaching Call w/Luana Part 2 of 3: RACE WEEK

We're back. This is Part 2 of a three-part series following my athlete Luana Ciccarelli through her build, race week, and post-race recap for Grandma's Marathon 2026. If you haven't listened to 97a yet, go back and start there — it'll make this one better. This call was recorded 48 hours before race day. The training is done. The hay is in the barn. Now it's about showing up with a plan and the right mindset to execute it. In this episode we get into the actual race plan — mile by mile pacing strategy, goal setting broken down into process goals and outcome goals, and the mental game that gets you through the hard miles. We talk about Lemon Drop Hill at mile 22, why miles 15 to 22 are the real fight, mantras that actually work when it gets dark out there, fueling strategy, and why you should probably look up from the ground every once in a while during a marathon. Luana is going for her first sub-4:15. She's done this 18 times before. This time she wants to finish knowing she didn't hold back and pushed as hard as she was supposed to when she was supposed to. She is more ready than she knows. Part 3 is the post-race recap. See you on the other side! This call is specific to Luana and her current training cycle. Every coaching call looks a little different depending on the athlete and their goals. Interested in working with me at Oak Endurance? 97a | Inside a Run Coaching Call w/Luana: Luana's Road to Grandma's Marathon 2026 (Part 1 of 3) THE BUILD

Throughout this call I share my screen and give a real inside look at TrainingPeaks — the app I use to build and manage all of my athletes' training plans. We reference specific workouts and the training calendar directly, which you can only see if you're watching. Audio listeners will still get everything, but if you want the full picture head over to our YouTube channel at youtube.com/@weget2dothis You've heard about run coaching calls before — way back in Episode 12 we did a fly-on-the-wall style call with athlete David. Well, we're doing it again, and this time we're taking it even further. This is Part 1 of a three-part series following my athlete Luana Ciccarelli through her full build, race week, and post-race recap for Grandma's Marathon 2026. What you're hearing is a real maintenance/pre-race coaching call — no script, no edits, just me and Luana five weeks out from race day. I'm Coach Jacob Oak of Oak Endurance — a Minneapolis-based endurance coaching company offering run coaching, strength training, and one-on-one athlete support. Luana has been an Oak Endurance athlete for about four years — working with me on both run coaching and strength — and this series is a real, unfiltered look at what that relationship and process actually looks like. Luana is 49 years old and Grandma's will be somewhere around her 19th or 20th marathon. She works a full-time desk job, she's a mom, she's been sober for 16 years, and she might be in the best shape of her running life right now. In this call we get into the physical stuff — training blocks, peak mileage, fueling, plantar fasciitis, and race pace strategy for a sub-4:15 goal. But we also go deep on the mental side of endurance sports: the psychology of control, what happens when your identity gets wrapped up in a race result, and how to actually build a healthy long-term relationship with running. Part 2 is race week. Part 3 is the full recap. Come back for all of it. This call is specific to Luana and her current training cycle. Every coaching call looks a little different depending on the athlete and their goals. Interested in working with me at Oak Endurance? 95 | Dr. Spencer Lindholm | "Pain Is the Last Thing to Arrive & the First Thing to Go"

This week we headed down to Eden Prairie, Minnesota to sit down with Dr. Spencer Lindholm, sports chiropractor and owner of Great North Athletics — and honestly, the gym space alone was worth the trip. Spencer has over a decade of experience in sports injury, rehabilitation, and performance training, and he's built his practice around one core belief: if you have a body, you're an athlete, and movement is medicine. In this episode, we get into what personalized, whole-person care actually looks like in practice — and why the traditional model of rushing people in and out the door just doesn't cut it when you're trying to figure out why someone keeps getting hurt. Spencer breaks down the most common running form issues he sees (hint: your posterior chain is probably not working as hard as you think it is), why load management errors are behind the majority of training-related injuries, and how he thinks about gait retraining without throwing your whole training plan out the window. We also talk about the real cost of skipping the basics — sleep, hydration, stress — and how no amount of red light therapy or cold plunging is going to save you if your foundation is cracked. Spencer is refreshingly direct about all of it, and brings the kind of nerdy, puzzle-solving energy that makes you want to go get a full movement assessment immediately. Whether you're a runner dealing with a nagging injury, someone who's been told "just don't do that anymore," or a practitioner trying to do better for your patients — this one is worth your time. ***** Keep up with Spencer and Great North Athletics: Instagram: @greatnorthathletics Website: Great North Athletics ***** Follow us on Instagram: @weget2dothispod Email us questions/comments at: weget2dothis@gmail.com Check out the video portion of our show at: https://www.youtube.com/@weget2dothis For business information hit up the links below: Dr. Kailee Acupuncture Website Oak Endurance Website Reviews go SUCH A LONG WAY and it would mean the world to us if you took a second out of your busy life to leave one :) Spotify: follow the show, tap the three dots near the podcast title, then tap rate show Apple Podcasts: follow the show, scroll to the bottom to Ratings and Reviews, then leave stars or write a review YouTube: subscribe and drop a comment on the episode Thank you for being here. 93 | Tiffany Farrar, LPCC | Who Are You Outside of Your Sport? Identity, Resilience & Mental Performance

This week we sat down with Tiffany Farrar, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Founder of Confluence Counseling in St. Paul, MN — and someone who brings a rare combination of clinical mental health expertise and a deep love for sport. Tiffany works with individual athletes, collegiate teams, and everyday people navigating the messy intersection of performance and mental wellness. In this episode, we dig into what it really means to build mental toughness — not just grit your teeth through hard things, but actually train your mind the way you train your body. We talk about the danger of tying your whole identity to one sport or activity, and why knowing who you are outside of your sport might be the most important thing you can do before an injury ever happens. We also get into the science behind suppressed emotions and how they show up in the body, why Tiffany thinks "lazy" is a lazy word, and what an approach mindset actually looks like in the middle of a brutal 400-meter repeat. Tiffany also gets personal, sharing her own experience with cancer and broken feet — and what rebuilding looked like on the other side. Rather than glossing over the hard parts, she talks about what it took to stop comparing her comeback to who she used to be, sit with the grief of lost time, and eventually find genuine excitement in showing up again. Her story is proof that the tools she teaches aren't just clinical — they're lived. Whether you're an athlete, a coach, or just someone trying to get out of their own head, this one is packed with practical tools and honest conversation.
