We Saw the Devil: Unfiltered Political Analysis

We Saw the Devil

Unapologetic. Unfiltered. Unafraid. Like NPR if NPR was an angry woman that said "f*ck it" and meant it. This is politics the way it actually happens: raw power plays, broken systems, and the daily chaos coming out of Washington and statehouses across the country. No both-sides theater. No corporate talking points. Just sharp, evidence-based breakdowns of the stories that shape your life, your wallet, and your future. If you’re exhausted by polite pundits and hungry for someone who will call the b******t exactly what it is, subscribe and join the conversation. Hosted by Robin, We Saw the Devil cuts through the noise, propaganda, performative outrage, and both-sides nonsense to talk about what’s actually happening in American politics, power, corruption, extremism, civil rights, media failures, and the people using democracy like it’s a rental car they never planned to return. Although left-leaning, this is not a polite little politics show for people who want everything softened, centered, and served with a bipartisan garnish. We Saw the Devil is sharp, furious, researched, and allergic to pretending cruelty is just another “perspective.” Like NPR if NPR was an angry woman that said "f*ck it" and meant it. No spin. No filter. Just facts. We don't do fair. We do factual.  Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/we-saw-the-devil-unfiltered-political-analysis--4433638/support.

Graham Platner: The Rape Allegation, the Six Day Deadline, and the Maine Senate Meltdown

Graham Platner was beating Susan Collins in the Maine Senate race. Then Jenny Racicot went on the record with Politico and CNN alleging he raped her in 2021, backed by therapist emails, texts, and disclosures that predate his campaign by years. Within 24 hours, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Ro Khanna, Chuck Schumer, and the Maine Democratic Party all told him to get out. He denies everything. And he has until July 13 to decide. Robin breaks down the whole ugly thing: what Racicot alleges happened that night and why the paper trail put it over the edge for a certified skeptic. The baggage that was already there, from the Totenkopf tattoo to the Reddit posts to the Blackwater successor company nobody talks about correctly. Why smear campaigns are real AND why this isn't one. Stephen King's terrible take. Why establishment Democrats are not the heroes here, and why the progressive left, from DSA to Bernie world, has a vetting crisis it can no longer afford. Plus the six day ballot deadline, the replacement scramble (Troy Jackson, Nirav Shah, Shenna Bellows), and what has to happen for Democrats to keep this seat competitive against Susan Collins. Smears are real. So is rape. Both things can be true, and nobody in American politics seems to be able to hold two thoughts at once. July 4th: America's Empty Birthday and the Kamala Question

America turned 250 and the party flopped. ecord 102 degree heat, a lightning evacuation of the National Mall, and a president speaking to rows of empty chairs after 11 p.m., where he misquoted the Declaration of Independence at the document's own birthday party. Then came 850,000 fireworks, a Code Red air quality alert, briefly the worst air of any major city on Earth, and a 100+ post Truth Social meltdown featuring attacks on a federal judge, pool water, and a Home Alone 2 throwback. Meanwhile, hundreds of masked Patriot Front members marched through DC with Confederate flags, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum declined, three times, to condemn them. But that's only 25% of the show. The main event: Kamala Harris is running for president, and the receipts say so. The private call to Zohran Mamdani. The closed-door meeting with AOC. The outreach to Uncommitted Movement co-founder Abbas Alawieh and James Zogby. The policy briefings on China, AI, and Venezuela. She hasn't announced, but nobody schedules Venezuela briefings for fun. So this episode does something radical: it talks about Kamala Harris fairly. The real prosecutor record vs. the meme (1,956 marijuana convictions, 45 state prison sentences, and the reentry program that became a national model), alongside the criticisms that deserve daylight: the truancy law, the Kevin Cooper case, the cash bail brief. The Gaza record, why the skepticism is earned, and why the meetings are the cheap part. The DNC autopsy that blamed her for a loss engineered above her head while never once printing the word Gaza. The double standards no male politician has ever been handed. And the difference between accountability and self-sabotage, because one produces a nominee and the other produces a corpse with great quote tweets. Politics is not fantasy casting. If the choice is flawed competence or the fire, pretending they weigh the same is how the house burns down. SCOTUS Rulings Day One: Trump Didn’t Become King. SCOTUS Became His Landlord.

Today was not “Trump becomes king.” That’s too simple, too tidy, and frankly too flattering to the man currently dry-humping a football he doesn’t realize is on a leash. On this episode of We Saw the Devil, Robin breaks down the Supreme Court’s decision day and the story most of the coverage is already getting wrong: Trump did gain power, yes. But the Court gained something bigger. It kept the keys. The centerpiece is Trump v. Slaughter, where the Supreme Court torched a ninety-one-year-old rule protecting independent agency officials from being fired just because the president finds them annoying, inconvenient, or insufficiently obedient. That decision did not just weaken the FTC. It cracked open the entire independent-agency structure and dragged the unitary executive theory out of the Federalist Society basement and into the law of the land. But the real twist is this: the Court did not simply hand Trump a crown. It handed him a lease. From Trump v. Cook, where the Court blocked his attempted firing of Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook for now, to the mail-in ballot ruling, to E. Jean Carroll’s surviving verdict, to the Medicaid work requirement lawsuit, the pattern is the same. The Court is not retreating. It is positioning itself as the final landlord of the executive branch. Trump got more power. The Court kept control. This episode covers: The Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. SlaughterThe end of the ninety-one-year protection from Humphrey’s ExecutorWhy independent agencies like the FTC, FCC, SEC, and NLRB are now in dangerThe unitary executive theory and how a once-fringe legal idea became majority doctrineWhy Trump v. Cook is not the clean “Trump loss” people want it to beHow the Court protected Lisa Cook while keeping the door open for future Fed fightsThe mail-in ballot ruling and why the win still comes with a warning labelE. Jean Carroll’s verdict surviving Trump’s latest appealThe new Medicaid work requirement fight and how bureaucracy becomes a weaponSotomayor’s dissent, “chaos will follow,” and the undefined exceptions that give the Court even more powerWhat is still coming tomorrow: birthright citizenship, transgender athlete bans, and campaign finance Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/we-saw-the-devil-unfiltered-political-analysis--4433638/support. Thanks, Daddy Trump...For Nothing

Y'all. Wednesday was not a weird day for this administration. It was a normal day, and that is the whole problem. Donald Trump canceled a bipartisan housing bill that would have lowered rent for millions of people. He killed the signing ceremony hours before it happened because he wants Congress to pass the SAVE Act first. That is voter suppression dressed up as a national emergency. He is holding your housing relief hostage. And his own supporters are in the replies typing thank you, daddy like that is a normal response to a man torching your rent relief. Same day he got into a screaming match with a Republican senator, called him a lunatic, then asked Congress for another eighty seven point six billion dollars for his Iran war that nobody voted for and that even Tucker Carlson is now calling him weak over. He threw himself a Ferris wheel party on the National Mall for America's two hundred fiftieth birthday while the Reflecting Pool stayed green behind him. The Supreme Court handed him a win that makes it easier to strand asylum seekers in danger over a technicality about which side of an imaginary line their toes are touching. My home state of Tennessee put up a granite headstone for fetuses on the Capitol lawn while ranking forty seventh in the country at keeping actual mothers alive. And the Democrats spent the week calling the candidates their own voters are actually excited about dirtbags. This episode goes through every receipt. The housing bill hostage situation. The court losses that forced him to Plan B. The Iran war bill. The self inflicted birthday party. The Supreme Court rulings that will get people killed. Tennessee's monument to control. And why the Democratic establishment is more afraid of its own base than it is of any of this.  Let's go.  Keywords: Trump housing bill, SAVE Act, voter suppression, thank you daddy, MAGA replies, Iran war funding, Supreme Court metering, asylum seekers, border policy, Tennessee maternal mortality, Monument to Unborn Children, Democratic socialists, John Fetterman, dirtbag left, democratic socialists primaries, Trump fitness, Reflecting Pool green, America 250, JD Vance, presidential chaosSupport the show with no ads and no sponsors at patreon.com/wesawthedevil. Tucker Carlson Quit, the Senate Hates Him, and the Pond Won

This was not a normal bad week. This was the week a bunch of people who spent years pretending the emperor had clothes all looked up at the same time and went, oh no. We open where the country opened: a rotting reflecting pool. A no-bid, $14.5 million renovation that bloomed bright green algae and peeled its custom "American Flag Blue" paint into the water, fixed with hydrogen peroxide that made it worse, then sold to the public as sabotage. Box cutters. A 350-foot slit that grew sixty feet mid-sentence. Five arrests over a pond. From there it only gets worse for him. Three federal courts ruled against this administration in a single Monday, on voter data, food assistance, and the retaliatory subpoenas aimed at Tim Walz, where a Bush-appointed judge used the word "risible." JD Vance flew to Switzerland to sell an Iran deal and got fact-checked and snubbed by Iran in real time. An Israeli cabinet minister told a country of six million to burn, and a platform called it a public service. Tucker Carlson quit the Republican Party. The Senate openly turned on him. Ken Paxton discovered he loves IVF the same week his own party voted to ban it. And Tulsi Gabbard cleaned out her desk by lobbing one more pre-pardoned Fauci grenade on the way out. Every story this week is the same story. Botch something, refuse to own it, invent an enemy, point the state at whoever's standing closest. We connect the dots, name the systems, and separate what's confirmed from what's spin. I'm Robin. This is We Saw the Devil. Go read the ruling. Page one, it's laughable. Donald Trump & The 3AM Presidency: Insomnia With Nuclear Codes

The most powerful man on the planet is eighty, bruised, posting in the dozens at 3 a.m., and nodding off by the afternoon. His Secretary of State looked at a video of him asleep and told Congress he was awake. Thirty-six doctors signed a warning into the Congressional Record and nothing happened. And every single person close enough to know the truth has a paycheck, a seat, or a legacy riding on telling you he's fine. This week Robin takes apart the machine built to keep you from knowing whether the guy with the nuclear codes still has a working brain. This is not armchair neurology and Robin does not diagnose anyone. The story is the concealment: who hides presidential decline, who profits, and why America has no honest way to force the truth out of people who would rather you stayed confused and polite. Not a diagnosis. A cover-up. In this episode: Why "does he have dementia" is the wrong question, and the trap the cover-up wants you stuck inThe receipts: age, chronic venous insufficiency, the bruised hands, the aspirin, the sleeping caught on cameraMarco Rubio telling a congressional committee the sleeping man was awakeThe 3 a.m. posting sprees, sundowning, and the late-night pattern his own side's doctors flagged in writingThe "perfect" cognitive test brag, and what the MoCA actually measures (spoiler: whether you can draw a clock)36 physicians, the Congressional Record, and the silence that followedWho gets paid to say he's fine: staff, party, family, donors, doctors, the pressStrength theater: the parade, the tanks, and what the spectacle is really hidingSanewashing, or how the press launders a meltdown into a policy headlineThe Biden hypocrisy nobody wants to sit next toA short, ugly history of hidden presidents: Cleveland, Wilson, FDR, JFK, ReaganThe 25th Amendment that exists on paper and will never get usedGerontocracy: the bigger rot underneath all of it Listen, then come find us: Website and full episode archive: wesawthedevil.com Get on the email list so the algorithm can't bury us.
