    Happy Labor Day, Southeast Texas! 🇺🇸☀️ If you’re heading outdoors for the holiday, be prepared for hot and mostly sunny conditions across the region. Temperatures are expected to climb to around 97°F, while the heat index could make it feel as hot as 107°F during the afternoon. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected after 1 PM, so a few locations could see a passing storm or brief downpour. Winds are expected to remain light and calm, providing little relief from the afternoon heat. Heat Safety Tips If you’re spending Labor Day outside, take precautions against the heat: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Avoid prolonged exposure to the afternoon heat. Check on children, older adults, and pets. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle. Keep an eye on the sky as isolated thunderstorms develop during the afternoon. While rain chances are relatively low, any thunderstorms that develop could bring brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.     🚨 TROPICAL STORM EDOUARD UPDATE — SOUTHEAST TEXAS

    A Hurricane Watch is in effect from High Island, TX to Cameron, LA, with Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Warnings from High Island to the Cameron/Vermilion Parish line. 🌀 Edouard: 40 mph winds, moving WNW at 7–8 mph. Landfall is expected over Jefferson County, TX, between High Island and Sabine Pass, then inland toward the Conroe/Huntsville area Wednesday. 🌧️ Rainfall: 3–6″ likely across parts of Chambers, Liberty, San Jacinto, eastern Montgomery, eastern Harris and eastern Galveston Counties, with isolated 6–9″ totals possible. Heavy rain could spread west of I-45 and north of I-10 Tuesday night into Wednesday. 🌬️ Winds: 15–25 mph for much of the area, with stronger gusts in squalls. Tropical-storm-force winds are most likely near the eastern portions of Chambers and Liberty Counties. 🌊 Coastal Flooding: Minor flooding is possible along Bolivar and parts of Galveston Bay. 2–4 feet of storm surge is possible east of High Island, including Sabine Lake. ⚠️ Remember: The storm is not a point. Impacts can extend well away from the center and far inland.     🌴 SOUTHEAST TEXAS TROPICAL WEATHER UPDATE — SUNDAY, AUGUST 30 | 2:00 PM CDT

    The National Hurricane Center has increased the chance of tropical development in the northern Gulf of America to 50% through the next 48 hours and 50% through 7 days. A low-pressure system, designated AL97, is currently about 125 miles south of southeastern Louisiana and has become better organized. The system is expected to move slowly west-northwestward, with a possible short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm developing before reaching the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coast Tuesday or Tuesday night. 🌧️ What could Southeast Texas see? Even if the system does not become a named tropical storm, the main concern for our area is locally heavy rainfall. • Periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms • Locally intense rainfall that could produce street/urban flooding • Gusty winds, particularly near heavier storms • Reduced visibility and difficult driving conditions • Potentially higher rain totals in localized areas ⚠️ The exact impacts are NOT known yet. Small changes in the track or development of this system could significantly affect where the heaviest rain falls. Residents along the Upper Texas coast should continue monitoring updates over the next 24–48 hours. Now is a good time to make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and to review your flood/emergency plans. Bottom line: Don’t focus solely on whether this becomes a tropical storm. Heavy rainfall could be the biggest concern for Southeast Texas regardless of development.     The Atlantic is getting more active with two areas to watch: 🟡 Disturbance #1: A tropical wave in the central Atlantic has a near 0% chance of development over the next 48 hours and a 20% chance over 7 days. Some gradual development is possible early this week. 🟠 Disturbance #2: Another tropical wave is expected to move off Africa early this week. Conditions could become more favorable for development, with a 40% chance over 7 days. 🌴 For Southeast Texas: Neither system poses an immediate threat to the Texas coast. Both are still well out in the Atlantic, and it’s much too early to discuss specific impacts here.     Summer isn’t letting up! Expect hot and humid conditions across Southeast Texas this week, with afternoon highs in the upper 90s to around 100° and heat index values reaching 105-110°. Practice heat safety if you’ll be outdoors. ☀️ Sunday–Wednesday: Mostly sunny, very hot, and mainly dry. ⛈️ Thursday–Saturday: A few isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms return, but many areas will remain dry.     🌴 Tropical Update | July 19, 2026 🌴 The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor Invest AL91 over the northeastern Gulf of America. Satellite data indicate the area of low pressure is becoming better organized, and a tropical depression could form during the next couple of days as it moves slowly north or northwest. 🌀 Development Chances: • 48 Hours: 60% (Medium) • 7 Days: 60% (Medium) 🌧️ Primary Impacts The greatest threat for heavy rainfall currently extends from the Florida Panhandle westward across Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, where localized flooding could develop over the next several days. 📍 What About Texas? At this time, significant direct impacts to Texas are not expected. However, Southeast Texas could continue to experience increased Gulf moisture, leading to scattered showers, thunderstorms, and locally heavy rainfall at times. Rip current risk and elevated surf may also increase along portions of the Upper Texas Coast depending on the system’s eventual track and strength. ✈️ An Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance later today if necessary. While confidence is increasing that some tropical development will occur, there is still uncertainty regarding the exact track and intensity. If you have travel plans anywhere along the northern Gulf Coast this week, stay informed and monitor the latest forecasts.
