Season 3 Episode 5: Not All Support Helps in a Health Crisis

You don’t get through something like ICU on your own.  But one of the biggest things I’ve reflected on since coming out of hospital… is that not all support actually helps.  In this episode, I share what truly supported me during and after my time in ICU, and why having the right support system can make all the difference to your healing.  This episode explores:  Why you don’t want to wait until crisis to understand your support system The difference between helpful and unhelpful support The role of emotional safety in healing How to recognise support that energises vs drains you Why trust in your medical team matters The importance of support beyond just the physical This conversation is relevant whether you’re living with a health condition or supporting someone who is.  Because support isn’t just about who is around you… It’s about what actually helps you heal.    🎙️ Referenced in this series: Episode 1 – What happened (ICU + health crisis) Episode 2 – What led to it (stress + boundaries) Episode 3 – Inner work and resilience Episode 4 – Processing what happens after crisis    💻 FREE Guide  If you’re currently dealing with a health challenge and feeling overwhelmed, this is a simple place to start.  When Health Challenges Feel Overwhelming  Four mindset shifts to help you stay calm and clear in difficult moments.  Download it here: https://teisharose.com/overwhelmed    📲 Connect:  Instagram: @hurdle2hope  Facebook: Hurdle2Hope  If this episode resonated, follow The Hurdle2Hope® Show and share it with someone who needs to hear it.    Send Teisha a text message ❤️🧡💚  If you’re feeling overwhelmed by a health challenge, download the free guide here:  https://teisharose.com/overwhelmed/ If you’re ready for more support, explore the Thriving Through Chronic Illness course and one-on-one coaching here:  https://teisharose.com/thriving Unexpected hurdles interrupt all of our lives. Season 3 Episode 4: After ICU: Processing “I Could Have Died”

What happens after a life-threatening experience?  In this episode, I share what it’s been like processing the reality that I could have died after spending eight days in ICU.  When you’re in crisis, your focus is on getting through it.  But it’s often not until afterwards that the emotional impact really hits.  This episode explores:  Why processing what happened is part of healing The delayed emotional impact after a health crisis Why suppressing emotions doesn’t support your recovery The role of inner work in building resilience What “active acceptance” really means in difficult moments  How your response continues to shape your experience after crisis   This conversation is relevant whether you’re living with a health condition or navigating a difficult experience in your life.   Because healing isn’t just about getting through aa crisis, it’s about what happens after.      🎙️ Referenced in this episode:  Why Accepting Your Diagnosis Doesn't Mean Giving Up Hope. https://www.buzzsprout.com/2291961/episodes/15581826      💻 FREE Guide  If you’re currently dealing with a health challenge and feeling overwhelmed, this is a simple place to start.  When Health Challenges Feel Overwhelming  Four mindset shifts to help you stay calm and clear in difficult moments.  Download it here:  https://teisharose.com/overwhelmed      📲 Connect:  Instagram: @hurdle2hope  Facebook: Hurdle2Hope    If this episode resonated, follow The Hurdle2Hope® Show so you don’t miss an episode and share it with someone who needs to hear it    Send Teisha a text message ❤️🧡💚  If you’re feeling overwhelmed by a health challenge, download the free guide here:  https://teisharose.com/overwhelmed/ If you’re ready for more support, explore the Thriving Through Chronic Illness course and one-on-one coaching here:  https://teisharose.com/thriving Unexpected hurdles interrupt all of our lives. Season 3 Episode 3: Inner Work Is Not Optional

What actually gets you through a crisis?  In this episode, I share my experience of being in ICU for eight days after my body went into septic shock, and why the work you do on yourself before a crisis is what carries you through.  When I was lying in that hospital bed, I wasn’t building strength in that moment.  I was drawing on everything I had already built.  This episode explores:  • Why inner work is not optional  • How MS and stage 4 cancer prepared me for this experience  • The difference between fear and being overwhelmed by it  • How your response shapes your experience in crisis  • The role of spirituality, connection, and support  • Why you can’t wait until things fall apart to start working on yourself  This conversation is relevant whether you live with a chronic illness or not.  Because none of us know when life will change.    🎙️ Referenced in this episode: Reiki and its Benefits for People with Health Conditions (Episode 41) https://www.buzzsprout.com/2291961/episodes/15920561    💻 Explore support: If you’re ready to build your resilience and not just cope: https://teisharose.com/thriving    📲 Connect:  Instagram: @hurdle2hope  Facebook: Hurdle2Hope    If this episode resonated, follow the podcast and share it with someone who needs to hear it. Season 3 Episode 2: Boundaries Before Body Breakdown

In the previous episode of The Hurdle2Hope® Show, I shared how a sudden health crisis led to eight days in ICU after my body went into septic shock.  In this episode, I reflect on what happened before the crisis and one of the most confronting lessons that became clear while recovering in hospital.  Leading up to my hospitalisation, I was dealing with a difficult personal situation and a significant amount of stress. At the time I believed I was coping. I was sleeping, meditating and trying to manage everything calmly.  But what I did not realise was that my body was absorbing that stress in ways I could not see.  During this time my body was already dealing with extreme inflammation in my bowel, something I had no idea about until I was hospitalised.  Looking back now, the lesson is very clear.  Boundaries are not just about relationships. They are about protecting your health.  In this episode I talk about:  • The stress that was building before the crisis  • The illusion of coping when your body is under pressure  • How emotional stress can impact the body physically  • Why strong boundaries are essential for protecting your wellbeing  • The moment I realised the consequences of not prioritising my health  • Why boundaries become even more important when living with chronic illness  One of the hardest reflections from my ICU experience was realising that when your health collapses, you are the one who lives with the consequences.  This episode is part of my series Health Crisis in Real Time, where I share the lessons I am learning while still recovering from a sudden and life-threatening health crisis.  If you live with chronic illness, are navigating high stress, or find it difficult to prioritise your own wellbeing, I hope this conversation offers perspective and encouragement.    Learn more about Teisha’s work supporting women living with chronic illness: https://TeishaRose.com  Follow Hurdle2Hope:  Instagram: @Hurdle2Hope Facebook: Hurdle2Hope    Send Teisha a text message ❤️🧡💚  If you’re feeling overwhelmed by a health challenge, download the free guide here:  https://teisharose.com/overwhelmed/ If you’re ready for more support, explore the Thriving Through Chronic Illness course and one-on-one coaching here:  https://teisharose.com/thriving Unexpected hurdles interrupt all of our lives. Season 3 Episode 1: The Moment My Body Shut Down

A few weeks ago my body went into septic shock and I spent eight days in ICU.  In this episode of The Hurdle2Hope® Show, I share what happened when I went to emergency after weeks of worsening gut symptoms, only to discover my body was going into septic shock.  What began as a visit to hospital quickly escalated as my condition deteriorated and doctors worked to understand what was happening.    This episode was recorded from my hospital room and is the first episode in a new series called Health Crisis in Real Time, where I share what happened during this unexpected health crisis and the lessons I am learning about resilience, healing and navigating serious illness.  For more than 25 years I have lived with multiple sclerosis, and I am also in remission from stage 4 breast cancer. This crisis had nothing to do with either condition, which made the experience even more confronting.  In this episode I talk about:  The morning I realised something was seriously wrong Going to emergency and rapidly deteriorating Being diagnosed with septic shock Eight days in ICU and not responding to treatment as expected The emotional shock of experiencing my body shutting down What helped me stay mentally strong in the darkest moments   Septic shock is a life-threatening medical emergency where the body’s response to infection causes blood pressure to drop dangerously low.  Many people talk about ICU experiences after they have recovered. In this series I’m sharing what it has been like while still processing the experience myself.  If you live with chronic illness, have experienced a medical crisis, or are supporting someone through serious health challenges, I hope this conversation offers both perspective and hope.
