    Physical Wellbeing

    We've launched the second series of Foresight's Wellbeing Podcast, a series designed to open discussions around employee wellbeing and provide some insight into theory and initiatives that can help increase wellbeing. The first series was framed in the pandemic and this second series acknowledges the cost-of-living crisis and the current challenging climate. This series features expert guest speakers and covers mental, physical, financial and sustainable wellbeing. In this episode, Foresight's Henry Morgan is joined by Ed Norman, a performance coach and Calibre Athlete Founder. Henry and Ed discuss how to achieve physical wellbeing.

    Mindfulness in practice

    Our final podcast explores mindfulness in practice We spend very little time in 'the present moment'. In fact, our daily routines, stress and digital connectivity mean it's very easy to neglect our minds and allow ourselves to become distracted. So, why is it so important that we interrupt ourselves and bring our focus back on the present? In previous episodes, we've discussed wellbeing, uncertainty, lack of human interaction, sleep, stress and anxiety. To round-up the series, in this episode we talk about the importance of mindfulness practice for our general wellbeing.   Some of the key questions that this podcast answers include:  What is mindfulness? How important is it to focus on the present moment? Why, as a society, are we so distracted? What are the benefits of mindfulness? What can we do to effectively practice mindfulness?

    Our fourth podcast addresses stress. This week it was National Stress Awareness Day, and with the news of a further UK lockdown having just been issued at the weekend, there couldn't be a more apt time to encourage open dialogue around stress. We all know what it's like to feel stressed, but it's not easy to pin down exactly what stress means. In this episode, we explore the impacts of stress on our wellbeing and draw listeners' attention to some simple yet effective ways to navigate stress. Some of the key questions that this podcast answers include:  What is stress? What are the impacts of stress, on both our minds and our bodies? How can we notice subtle signs that indicate a person is suffering from stress? What are helpful ways to combat stress?

    Sleep

    This third podcast will focus on the importance of sleep for being well. Sleep has a powerful and transformative impact on nearly every area of our life: from our mental wellbeing to our ability to perform in the workplace and on our physical fitness. However, a culture of 'being busy' has developed and sleep is often neglected.  In this episode, we explore just how important a healthy sleeping routine is, and offer some practical tips for getting your circadian rhythm in check.  Some of the key questions that this podcast answers include:  What is the importance of sleep? How do sleep cycles work and what are the benefits of slow-wave sleep? How can we encourage healthier sleeping habits? What are the key signs of sleep deprivation and how can this manifest in the workplace? What is the importance of sleep on wellbeing?

    The focus of our second episode is motivation. We appreciate that motivation can ebb and flow, particularly under the current unique circumstances. In this episode of Wellbeing, we explore the theory behind motivation and discuss some practical tips to help ourselves and others stay motivated.  Some of the key questions that this podcast answers include:  How is motivation defined? What is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and how can this be applied to the day-to-day? What are the differences between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation? What measures can individuals take to improve motivation? What can businesses do to help their employees?

    Lack of human interaction

    This first podcast will focus on the impact of lack of human interaction and what we mean by wellbeing and being well. A fundamental cornerstone of human wellbeing is human interaction, and there have been various measures in place which have affected this throughout the pandemic. In terms of work, that is normally the greatest chunk of the day taken up and in some cases there really is very little interaction happening, or in some cases, it is back to back meetings but via tools such as Zoom. Some of the key questions that this podcast answers include:  What is wellbeing? What impact does uncertainty have on people? What do we know about the impact human interaction has on wellbeing? What should colleagues and line managers consider now in terms of interaction?
