Men discussing mental health: why talking can be difficult and how can we start the conversation. - Episode 5

Mental health can be difficult to talk about at the best of times – but for blokes, it can seem almost impossible to talk about it with other men. In this episode, John and Steph sit down with Alex – someone who’s had struggles with mental health and spent time in therapy to work through it all. They discuss the differences between men talking about mental health with men compared to women, the societal norms that allow those differences, finding the language to discuss it and how to start talking about mental health with friends. ------------- University of Adelaide support services and resources: Wellbeing hub (mental and physical health tips and information): https://www.adelaide.edu.au/student/wellbeing/ Disability support: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/disability/ Counselling support: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/counselling/ International student support: https://international.adelaide.edu.au/international-student-support Links to support services mentioned in this episode: https://au.reachout.com/ https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/find-a-mental-health-professional https://www.adelaide.edu.au/student/wellbeing/mental-health Links to research used in the episode: https://www.optimonk.com/gender-targeting-the-differences-between-men-and-women/ https://popsters.com/blog/post/how-men-and-women http://pioneera.com/content/blog/toxic-to-positive-productivity?hs_amp=true https://www.businessnewsdaily.com/6387-employee-breaks.html https://www.newportinstitute.com/resources/co-occurring-disorders/toxic-productivity/ Have thoughts or suggestions for the show?
