“I called you fat?” - Friends

Both of us grew up watching Friends in our teen years. It’s a show that brought us so much joy, laughter and comfort. While it continues to be one of our favourite shows of all time, some of the ‘comedy’ hasn’t aged well and we want to talk about it. We don’t have time to chat through every episode, so for today we’re going to do a deep dive on ‘The one with all the thanksgivings’ and talk about the role that fat Monica played in the show, body commentary, stereotypes around the kind of people heterosexual males find attractive and of course Rachel’s nose job. We also play our own version of Friends bamboozle… let’s see if you can get more right than Gel!! Lil recommended: An episode of the Inherited Podcast titled 'Ruby's Nana Kay on her life lessons at 80'. Gel recommended: Simple Home Edit, One-pan Tandoori Chicken and Rice AND Off Campus Official Playlist on Spotify The content we mentioned:  More than a third of Australians considering cosmetic surgery - Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine. Redefining Beauty – Dove

Both of us can clearly recall the first time we watched the Dove Real Beauty Campaign and we wanted to talk about why it has stuck in our minds after all these years. While this is a little different to our usual episodes, we think this is such an important conversation. We talk about the role Dove played back when we first encountered the brand in 2004, and how relevant Dove continues to be in the evolving world of AI beauty standards. Gel recommendation: Listening to the Dish Podcast. Gel particularly loved the episodes with Niall Horan and Tom Holland.
