Whatever Let's Talk

Kevin Kheng

Hey, I'm Kevin. I'm so excited that I get to share my experience of my life living in Australia independently as an international student based in Melbourne. It's been years living by myself and I guess there are so many things to talk about. I create this safe space as I can just open up and talk about everything that happened in my life journey being here, from love story, friendship, working, studying etc,. I just want to talk about What's really going on in life & how do I get the courage to get through these problems that I would never though of growing up.

Making Friend As An Adult Is Surprisingly Challenging

Making friends as an adult is often more difficult than people expect. Unlike childhood or school years, where social interaction happens naturally through shared environments, adulthood requires intentional effort to build and maintain relationships. One of the main challenges is time. Adults are often busy with work, family responsibilities, and personal commitments, leaving limited opportunities to meet new people or nurture friendships. Additionally, social circles tend to become more fixed over time, making it harder to break into established groups. Another factor is the increased caution that comes with age. Adults are generally more selective about who they invest their time and energy in, often due to past experiences or trust concerns. This can create barriers to forming new connections, even when there is a desire for friendship. Moreover, the absence of structured environments, such as schools or universities, means there are fewer natural opportunities to meet people with similar interests. As a result, adults must actively seek out social settings, such as community events, workplaces, or hobby groups, to create connections. Despite these challenges, meaningful friendships are still possible. They often require openness, consistency, and a willingness to step outside of one’s comfort zone. While making friends as an adult may be more complex, the relationships formed can be deeper and more intentional.
