    Combining Two Cultures for an American Holiday

    Thanks for waiting! This episode was recorded pre-Thanksgiving, and we're a little late to upload. Thanksgiving festivities took over! BUT in this episode, we talk about Thanksgiving, how we both celebrate the holiday, how we integrate our cultures with the holiday, what we did for Thanksgiving, and most importantly, what we're grateful for this year in 2020.  This is also a bittersweet episode because our co-host, Carol will be leaving Across Seas.     November is National Adoption Month and I’m here with one of my friends; my Canandaigua babe - Emily! We’re both adopted, but have had different upbringings. Emily was adopted by white parents and I was adopted by Asian parents.     Never Belonging as Asian Americans!

    In today’s episode, we will be talking about what it’s like being a Third-Culture Kid (TCK) and what that means. Third-Culture Kids are kids who grew up in a culture different from their parents’ and/or have moved around to different environments. This is a very special episode since we are featuring our first guest speaker, Theo! Theo is a dear friend of ours and moved to Hong Kong from China to teach English.  He now works as a Head English Teacher for a Kindergarten in Hong Kong. He has lived in six different countries and moved 47 times! Carol moved back home to Hawaii and Allie moved to San Diego to live with her significant other.
