    308: Victoria Chen

    Attention listeners! We just got word that our episode is officially up to code! This week, we welcome Victoria Chen; architect, project manager, and founder of Evocate Group. Just like in building plans, her life went through many drafts along the way. Before architecture, she started off taking the floor at a DSW warehouse as a sales associate, never having sold a shoe in her life. Before long, her path led her to pursuing a career in architecture, where she now works as a project manager. Day to day, her duties are critical to ensure that her clients’ dream additions to their homes are up to code and able to see fruition! And just like the client’s homes she is helping to expand, her ambitions expand as well. Don’t expect to see Victoria sticking around for too long, as her future plans align with the hustling world of real estate and hotel management!

    307: Ken Kwapis

This week on “When Can You Start?” we speak to legendary Hollywood director and author, Ken Kwapis! You may recognize his name as director of projects such as Malcolm in the Middle, He’s Just Not That Into You starring Ben Affleck, Scarlett Johansson, and Jennifer Aniston, and being one of the founding fathers behind The Office. While his resume may be extensive, he started off directing afterschool specials for CBS Afternoon Playhouse including the episode “Revenge of the Nerd.” That kindled a career that spanned over 40 years, solidifying his status as a television directing legend. But wait, there’s more! For a blast of nostalgia, you can see Ken’s latest work on Hulu “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair”.     Episode 306: Catching up with Chris and Leah

    Miss us yet? This week on When Can You Start, we catch back up with our hosts, Chris and Leah, as they give us an update of their own lives! Leah ditches the camera and the call sheets for the reformer and the grip socks as she dives into the Pilates instructor world. Chris also leaves the control room for the private practice as he pursues a career in Mental Health Counseling. Both share their stories about what they loved about their old careers, what was challenging, and what the path looks like going forward. Just goes to show… even the hosts don’t have it all figured out yet!!

    Episode 305: Kip Opperman

    On this episode of When Can You Start, we hear from Kip Opperman. Kip is an interpreter and American Sign Language professor at Ithaca College. As a hearing person not knowing anything about deaf culture, Kip found his first job working at the New York State School for the Deaf in their housing department. There he learned sign language from the students, opening his eyes up to where he would eventually find his career. While his career is winding towards retirement, you can still find Kip playing with his band True Blue around the Upstate New York area!

    Episode 304: Emily Price

    Tell me how you really feel on this episode of When Can You Start as we speak to Emily Price, a therapist with a private practice! Starting from a young age, Emily always said she had a “healers personality”. Growing up as the daughter and granddaughter to school psychologists, she was able to hone in her passion for helping others. Her first job in the world of psychology was a counselor at a Sexual Assault Crisis Center, where she learned first hand how to help others reach their peace while preserving her own. Throughout her career story, Emily found herself bouncing around the Northeast United States between Connecticut, Boston, and New York, trying to find a place to plant her roots. Finding a foothold in Texas, she was able to open a private practice where she continues her mission to help and heal people wherever she can.

    Episode 303: Nora Hennessy

    On this week’s episode of When Can You Start, “focus” on Nora Hennessy, a Pilates instructor at Focus Pilates! Nora developed her skills for leading groups by teaching children’s theatre while aspiring to be an actress in LA. As her path towards her goals changed, she found herself still leading groups (and privates) but this time, for Pilates. Just like how she took control of her fitness opportunity when it came, Nora hopes to continue to follow opportunities when they present themselves.

    Episode 302: Lara Keidel

    Get ready to get whipped into shape on this week’s episode with personal trainer Lara Keidel! Lara’s health journey started out as an outpatient clinician and therapist for Cornell Medical Hospital where she experienced firsthand the chaotic field of the medical industry. While she loved the job, ultimately life had other plans. In order to help take care of her growing family and responsibilities, she became a personal trainer which is what she does today. One of the best things Lara does as a personal trainer is what she calls, “meeting her clients where they are”. While Lara may have found the top of her career ladder already, she shares some advice with us about how to keep up the motivation up when you’ve already achieved your goals.

    Episode 301: Jared

    Testing testing 1,2, on the Season 3 Premiere for When Can You Start! This episode we speak to our host, Leah’s very own brother Jared! Jared started off writing articles and reviews for video games which not only fueled his passion for video games, but opened up the door to a dream he still pursues today. Jared turned in the pen for the microphone, and now discusses all things video games on his podcast Pixel Pizza, where he interviews some of the biggest names who help make some of the best games around! Jared also is grinding away at a dream career in voice acting! You can hear some of Jared’s more recent work in the new Yu-Gi-Oh show as Damamu on YouTube TV, Disney XD, or eventually on Hulu. Jared hopes to further his career in voice acting, hopefully one day starring in a Super Smash Bros game.
