    "The Idea of Choice" Part 2 with Amma

    In this episode we finish up part 2 of my story. I wrap up my last few years of college and what I discovered before graduation. In my last two years I was a at stand still after failing two core classes that lead me to being on academic probation, my car breaking down, being fired from my job and my dad cutting me off. Where were my choices now? After calling my older brother to tell him the situation he advise me to really take this time and really ask myself "What did I want?" At the end of it all what was my purpose now that I was out of high school and I now that I have a "choice" to live how I want to live. Did my future really need a bachelors degree?     “The Idea of Choice” Part 1 with Amma

    In this episode I tell part 1 of my academic story. Hi my name is Amma and I am the creator and host of Now College Podcast. I take a trip down memory lane to share my college experience and why I started this podcast. Before entering college, I just knew I was prepared and I knew what to expect. I am the last of four children in my family and they all went to college and graduated. In addition to this, the eldest two had graduate degrees as well as my Father, who was a professor and later on, became the chairman of his Department. I grew up around individuals in academia my whole life. Therefore, obtain a bachelors degree seemed completely conceivable. After my first semester I soon found out, I was beyond wrong. That going through any part of academia is an accomplishment and not always smooth sailing. I couldn't believe that with all that was setup for me and all of my privileges, and resources I was still ill prepared for my college experience.  Take a listen to Part 1 of my college journey and what I soon learned to be the true meaning of choice.     In this episode we mainly discuss student life with Summer Carter-Barnes. She was a biology and health major turned fashionista and fashion consultant at California State University, East Bay. Listen to how she navigated from the southern California school system in her elementary and middle school years to northern California for her high school years. There she experienced two high schools with two very different demographics and skewed funding for each school. But before she became who she is today her journey starts off with being a very successful K-12 student. She only made A's and a few B's, that is until her freshmen year at Azusa Pacific University when listening to an unwise student advisor. This very common decision caused her to fail her first class. Mario just wrapped up his Master's Degree in editing, from AFI just one day before this episode was published.     In this episode, we sit down with Nicole Fladger, a social worker and fashion enthusiast, to discuss her journey in college as an older student. Starting at the age of 25 yrs old, Nicole had experienced academic hardships which lead her to be falsely put into special education and later transferred to a nearby continuation school to finish high school. After high school, Nicole decided to change the way she saw education in her life and as a result acquired many trades and diplomas before obtain her bachelors degree as a social worker.     "Where There Is A Will There's A Way" with Othelia Joy

    In this episode, we sit down with Othelia Joy, the founder of "The Glow Report" a digital media company. She shares with us her school experience starting with kindergarten through sixth grade first, to describe her life from being conceived in war-torn Liberia and immigrating as infant with her family to Ghana, West Africa. Seven years later, her and her family immigrated to Elk Grove, California just before the terrorist attacks of 2001.
