Wildcatdojo Conversations

Sensei Michelle

Karate is for everyone. So, join us each week for a 20 to 25 minute conversation on all types of subjects. We go from managing the distractions of daily life, through martial arts history and people, and common sense concepts to add to your self defense armor. Plus we have interviews and so much more. After spending over 40 years discussing life's challenges in a dojo, (both as a student and as a teacher) I decided it would be fun to share the conversations with everyone. And it is! We're having a great time with our guests each week thinking, talking and very importantly sharing a laugh or two along the way.

    Part 2 - Comparing 3 Self-Defense Books

Last week we started this discussion on Self-Defense books. This week we add a third book to the mix. It's called The Gift of Fear. Sensei Tracey joins us again as we get deeper into the subject.  We have discussed self-defense before on the program. Check out last weeks episode notes for more. This week I decided to tag an episode on Female warriors. Sensei Tracey was in that one also, and Sensei Sherry was there too! Here it is: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/8153789  And from a more modern perspective, Sensei Liam joined us to discuss cyber-security. He encourages us to treat it like self-defense. And he's right! Listen here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/15836335 With that, I'll thank you for listening and encourage you to support the show. Comparing Three Self-Defense Books - A Self-Defense Palooza!

Sensei Tracey joins us today to discuss 3 different Self-defense books. Mine, Master Kelljchian's and a man named Gavin de Becker who wrote a book called The Gift of Fear. Sensei Tracey has been on so many times. One that I love was back in 2021 when we talked about the Tanto (the knife).  https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/8061673 Also, we have done so many episodes on reality defense. I chose this one to tag in. It is from 2019. Glenda joined us and we had fun. Here's the link: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/2089278 And we met a new friend in 2020 who shared a history lesson of women and defense in the early 20th century! Check it out: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/5247724 As always happens in this part of the notes, I'm thinking of you and thanking you for listening. Want to support us? Perseverance- Our Motto the Last Few Weeks

Well we've run into both medical and technical difficulties this last few weeks. Don't worry, no one is on the verge of death. Everyone is ok. When life interrupted the flow of our work, we dug in and decided to listen to this old episode. It made us smile and we hope it makes you smile too.  Stay tuned till the end for a bonus giggles (or groans). Laughter always helps.  Since this episode aired we did, in fact, do episodes on the sayings of Master Brown and Master Lasorsa. Here's Master Brown's: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/11015349 And here's Master Lasorsa's: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/11610212 Finally, we mention about the crazy power of our brains. Here's that episode: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/4491323 If time allows, support us by clicking the link below and thank you!! Laughs, Out Takes and Stories

Yay! It's time to revisit our great guests, stories and plenty of mistakes from the past 6 months. I'll tag as many episodes as I can below.  Did you hear our 2 episodes with the voice of the podcast (Sensei Jay)? Here's the one we did on Camouflage: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/17972128 And here is the one where we talked about WW1 planes. Boy did we laugh: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/17625084 I say in the episode that I'll try to include this episode on the letter "E". So here it is: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/18099762  And let's finish this part by adding these episodes on Jackie Chan: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/13780573 And one of his movies: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/17516251 We hope you enjoy these episodes as much as we do.  And, hey, don't forget to check out the "support the show" link below. Makiwara and Tamishawara _ An Archived Episode

Welcome to December 2025 and an episode from 2021. This episode is packed with stories about breaking (tamishawara). Remember that back in 2021, when this was recorded Sensei Landyn was a kid. In the years between then and now Sensei Landyn has done many breaks including the required one with the nunchaku mention in this episode.  We also mention quite a few episodes, including one on Kimi (focus). Here's the link: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/8501411 After this episode originally aired we did discuss Master Kelljchian's saying "If you tell me you're stupid, I'll tell you you're stupid." Here ya go: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/9274638 And finally, we mention Sensei Baier in this episode. He has been on the show a couple of times to talk about Kurosawa movies. Here's one: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/14477612 Thanks for listening and if you have a minute and an extra couple of pennies, click the link below to support the show. We're Celebrating Six Years of Podcasts

A few episodes back we actually aired our 312th episode (6 years). Wow! Thanks for coming along for the ride. Sensei Jackie and Sensei Landyn (remember - he was 12 when we started!) were talking about it and decided to push record while we talked. This is the result. We talked about so many things, our great guests (thanks guys), new friends (we're so lucky), and keeping in touch with old friends (again - it brings a smile to my face). Then the discussion turned to episodes. I couldn't fit all the episodes we mentioned. Here's 6 or 8. (Let's see if I run out of room!)  I think I'll put them in chronological order. Let's start with an episode taken from a page out of Grandmaster Urban's book: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/2196104 We've done a few episodes on self-defense and real fights. Here's the one with Sensei Jay: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/3293584 Moving forward a couple of months and we tackle Musashi https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/3949283 At one point Sensei Landyn mentions the special place the interviews with his parents are. We agree. Here's his dad: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/3646768 And his mom: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/6639256 Then there's the conversations about warriors. There are too many to link. Here's the first one we did. Sensei Rudy talks about his dad: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/7498846 And I'll take it home with Sensei Jackie's favorite interview. Here's Thelma: https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/episodes/14443462 Thanks for listening and for all the ways you support us: Support the show Thanks so much for listening and sharing the podcast with friends.
